Four Demon Deacons earned Second Team All-ACC accolades on the final day of competition.
CLEMSON, S.C. -- An outstanding week for the Demon Deacons indoor track & field teams was capped off on Saturday by four student-athletes that earned Second Team All-ACC honors.
Overall for the week at Clemson, Wake Forest tallied six all-conference accolades and had two student-athletes (Tony Jones, Anna Bush) earn individual titles. The Deacons now have a combined 38 (20 female, 18 male) ACC Indoor Championships in program history. With that, Wake Forest had two student-athletes earn individual titles at the ACC Indoor Championships for the first time since 2007.
Additionally as a team, Wake Forest's women finished in 12th and the Demon Deacon men placed 13th. Individually, the Deacons totaled 18 personal best times and marks, three season bests and one school record throughout the week.
Specifically on Saturday, redshirt sophomore Brent Bailey earned Second Team All-ACC accolades as he placed fifth in the men's mile with a personal best time of 4:01.60. The Deacons' other three second team honors came in the 800m run as juniors Kenton Bachmann and Archie Wallis placed fourth and sixth, respectively.
In the women's race, sophomore Aleeya Hutchins broke a Wake Forest indoor track & field record with a personal best time of 2:04.73 and finished fifth. The previous indoor record was set back in 2004 by Nikeya Green with a time of 2:05.31.
"I want to thank my amazing coaches and teammates, especially Coach (Andrew) Ferris and our middle distance group for truly believing in me and helping me to achieve this milestone," Hutchins said. "Breaking this school record and qualifying for nationals is the most significant thing that I have done in my career thus far as a runner. The previous indoor record was set back in 2004 by Nikeya Green at 2:05.31 and it is an honor to take hold of the torch. I am so proud to be a Demon Deacon and to have the opportunity to represent Wake Forest. I promise to make everyone proud at nationals in two weeks!"
Complete results and information from the week are below.
DIRECTOR OF TRACK & FIELD JOHN HAYES:
"It was an outstanding week for our student-athletes, coaches and entire program. I am proud of the effort everyone gave and we have some real momentum as we move forward. We are likely to have a few student-athletes at the NCAA Indoor Championship meet in a couple of weeks and we are poised to compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Stillwater, Okla. for the first time in 20 years. It's an exciting time for our program as we continue to push forward in the weeks and months ahead."
