Demon Deacons Split Two Home Matches

No. 13 Wake Forest dropped its first ACC match of the season versus Virginia but bounced back with a 7-0 win over Davidson
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 13 Wake Forest men's tennis team went 1-1 on Sunday with a loss to No. 4 Virginia and a win versus Davidson Saturday afternoon at Wake Forest Tennis Center.
Virginia (9-2, 3-0 ACC) opened the day by securing the doubles point against the Demon Deacons (11-3, 3-1 ACC) and continued their strong play with 3 singles wins to clinch the win.
Wake Forest responded after the conference loss with a dominant victory over Davidson (2-5). The Deacs swept the Wildcats with a 7-0 victory and won all but one match in straight sets.
Wake Forest is now 7-0 in non-conference matches since February 13th.

Against Virginia
The Demon Deacons opened the day by dropping the doubles point, giving the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead early.
Moving into singles play, Virginia continued their strong play, picking up two early wins versus Eduardo Nava and Taha Baadi to move their advantage to 3-0 with four matches to go.
Soon after the conclusion of those matches, Virginia picked up two more wins over Henri Squire and Filippo Moroni to clinch the match and advance their lead to 5-0 with two matches remaining.
After The Cavaliers clinched the win, Wake Forest did gain some personal momentum from No. 92 Rrezart Cungu and Melios Efstathiou who both picked up third-set-tiebreaker wins putting the Deacs on the board in singles. The match ended at 5-2 in favor of Virginia.

Against Davidson
The Demon Deacons opened the evening by winning all three doubles matches securing the first point of the night to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
After securing the point, the Old Gold and Black continued their strong play in singles. Siddhant Banthia picked up a dominant win early on (6-0, 6-1) moving the Deacon advantage up to 2-0.
Adam Ambrozy and Eduardo Nava kept the momentum going with more wins with Nava's win clinching the match for the Demon Deacons. The duo moved the lead up to 4-0 and gave up just 5 games in their straight-set victories.
Wake Forest ultimately ended the day with a 7-0 win. Henri Squire, Robert Maciag, and No. 121 Luciano Tacchi rounded out the lineup for the Deacs. Squire and Maciag won in straight-sets, while Tacchi's victory came in a hard fought three sets.

The Deacs continue their home stand on Thursday, March 4th with non-conference matchups versus Baylor and North Carolina Wesleyan.
