Wake Forest Set for Second Event in South Carolina

2/28/2021 1:26:00 PM | Women's Golf

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf team is headed back to South Carolina for the Gamecock Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of South Carolina at Columbia Country Club.

The Deacs are coming off their second 20+ stroke win in less than a year. Wake Forest won the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate last spring by 26 strokes and Emilia Migliaccio took home the individual title. That was the last event Wake Forest played before the remainder of the spring 2020 season was cancelled. The ACC also cancelled fall 2020 golf due to COVID-19. Just last week the Deacs won the Palmetto Intercollegiate by 28 strokes and Rachel Kuehn took home the individual title.

Wake will be one of four ACC schools in the 18-school field. There will also be 13 SEC schools at the event, with Baylor as the only Big 12 school. Baylor is the only undefeated women's team in the country right now, having won five straight events (fall and spring) and ranked No. 1 in Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin.

Wake Forest is ranked No. 5 in the latest GolfStat rankings and No. 4 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. They are the highest-ranking ACC team in both, with Florida State and Virginia also in the top 10 of both.

Course Information: The tournament is being played at the Par 72, 6,297-yard Classic Golf Course at Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, S.C. The country club was named the 2020 South Carolina Golf Association Club of the Year and is claimed to be the Finest Golf Club in the Midlands since 1904. It is also the home of the 2020 South Carolina Men's and Women's Amateur Championships.

Format: 54-hole stroke play where teams will play three rounds over three days. Monday and Tuesday's tee times will begin at 9:00 am ET with Wednesday's final round having a shotgun start at 9:00 am ET.
