Anna Brylin extended her singles win-streak to five straight and improved to 10-2 on the season.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 27 Wake Forest women's tennis team picked up their third conference win in a hard fought road match, Sunday afternoon at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Demon Deacons (6-6, 2-3 ACC) come out of the gates quickly grabbing the doubles point from the Cardinals (6-6, 3-4 ACC) with victories on the top two courts.
Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth continued to be tough to beat in the No. 2 doubles position, being the first to finish with a 6-2 win. Just moments later, Carolyn Campana and Eliza Omirou closed out the doubles point with another 6-2 victory.
Freshman Casie Wooten continued her impressive form in the No. 6 singles position as she put the second point on the board. She moved past her opponent in straight-set fashion, capturing a dominant, 6-1, 6-2 win against the Cardinal's Simova.
After taking a 2-1 lead with Wooten's victory, the Demon Deacons kept the strong play going but Louisville continued battling. The Cardinals took down No. 98 Eliza Omirou, tying the match but later, Anna Brylin grinded out a three-set win putting the Deacs in the lead once more. The Old Gold and Black led 3-2 with two matches left.
Despite strong efforts from Louisville, Wake Forest pulled away and secured the win thanks to Carolyn Campana picking up the clinching point on court one, her fourth consecutive victory. She won in a hard fought three-set match (6-3, 4-6, 6-3).
Louisville ultimately picked up an additional point in the final match of the day to conclude the match at 4-3 Deacs.
Quotable
"That was a tough match. We waited, hoping to get to play outside, but had to go in where we knew Louisville had been very good this year. I am really pleased with our solid start in doubles which got us that key first point. Casie was great to get us a second point. Anya's comeback win at three was so important against a player who usually puts a point up on the board for them and then Carolyn was very good in the third to close it out. Gets us to 3-3 in conference and headed home for a big weekend." - Coach Wyshner
