The Deacs are ranked in the poll for the 19th-straight week
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest field hockey team opened the 2021 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll ranked No. 13 in the nation on Tuesday.
This marks the 19th-straight NFCHA poll the Deacs have been featured in, and the Deacs' highest ranking since they opened the 2019 season ranked No. 10 in the preseason poll.
Wake Forest has gotten off to a strong start in the spring field hockey season after finishing fifth in the fall's Atlantic Coast Conference standings. The Deacs shut out Boston College 3-0 in their spring opener on March 6, powered by the two goals from freshman Hannah Maxwell. The Forty Fort, Pa. native was named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for her performance against the Eagles.
The NFHCA poll, released weekly during the field hockey playing season, was put on hiatus in the fall, as the ACC was the only conference to sponsor fall competition at the Division I level. All seven ACC field hockey teams ranked in the top 15 in the poll, with reigning national champion North Carolina and ACC tournament runner-up Louisville taking the top two spots.
The Deacs are back on the turf on Friday, March 19, at 4 pm, when Wake Forest travels to Durham to take on No. 12 Duke. This will be the third matchup against the Blue Devils this season, with each team winning at home during the fall.
