Demon Deacons Win Fifth-Straight at Home

3/21/2021 1:48:00 PM | Women's Tennis

No. 21 Carolyn Campana extended her singles winning streak to five-straight.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 29 Wake Forest women's tennis team picked up their fifth conference victory over the Boston College Eagles Sunday morning at Wake Forest Tennis Center.

The Demon Deacons (9-6, 5-3 ACC) began the match by winning the doubles point, taking the early lead. The duos of Carolyn Campana and Eliza Omirou as well as Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth won their matches quickly, giving up just one game between the two matches.

Shifting over to singles, Wake Forest kept the momentum going despite losing the first singles match to retirement. No. 98 Eliza Omirou secured a quick straight-set win on court five, moving the lead to 2-1 over Boston College (4-7, 2-7 ACC) with four matches to go.

After taking the 2-1, the Old Gold and Black secured two more wins from Casie Wooten and Anna Campana, clinching the match for Wake Forest. The pair of Deacs gave up just three games combined in the two matches.

Boston College ultimately picked up another point to cut the lead, but the Demon Deacons still won the match, 5-2. Wake Forest won three singles matches in straight-sets and gave up a combined five points in the three matches.

Quotable

"It was a good performance. Getting a 2-0 weekend at home in the ACC is important. We needed that one. We were happy to get outdoors and get our friends and family around. We played great and came out in doubles strongly today after a slow start on Friday so that was great to see." - Coach Wyshner
