DURHAM, N.C. – A battle in doubles and three straight-set triumphs in singles play, pushed the No. 11 Wake Forest men's tennis team past No. 38 Duke on Sunday at Ambler Tennis Stadium.

The victory was Wake Forest's sixth straight win over Duke and seventh straight ACC win, moving the Deacs to 10-1 in conference play. The Demon Deacons lead the ACC in total wins with 25 with the closest being Virginia's 16 win.

ROAD WARRIORS
Since the start of the 2016-17 season, Wake Forest has a 34-6 record in away matches. This includes an impressive 22-6 record over the past three seasons.

QUOTABLE
"It is always tough to pick up wins in the ACC and to do it on the road is huge. I think we started off poorly in doubles, but we came back as Nava and Squire battled for the point. That set the tone for us heading into singles. Cungu and Nava played great tennis and I'm proud of the guy's fight in the tough conditions. It was really windy, and I thought Duke did a great job making us work. Credit to Filippo (Moroni) for getting the clinch. Now we head home and get some rest for the NC State match on Saturday." - Coach Bresky

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Wake Forest found themselves down early in the doubles point but the Deacs fought back to earn the 1-0 lead and setting the tone.
  • Then, the Blue Devils would pick a win of their own on court three.
  • Down 5-2, No. 13-ranked Eduardo Nava and Henri Squire pulled out five straight games to clinch the first point for the Demon Deacons, 7-5.
    • The win improved Nava and Squire to 11-4 in the dual season.
  • In singles the Deacs used the doubles momentum, gathering victories from Nava, Rrezart Cungu and Filippo Moroni to clinch match point at 4-0, earning their 13th shutout win of the season.
  • Nava was the first Deac off court, dominating Keist, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3 to double the Wake Forest advantage.
  • On court four, Cungu quickly followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Faris Khan to put the Demon Deacons on the brink of its 25th win of the season.
    • The win was the Ulcinj, Montenegro native's 18th singles win, leading all Demon Deacons.
  • The freshman, Moroni clinched the match with a comprehensive, 6-3, 7-6 (2), dub over Michael Hellerat No. 6. Moroni's win moves his streak to three.
