Omirou Helps Lead Deacs to Senior Day Win

Senior Eliza Omirou picked up a straight-set 6-0, 6-4 win en route to the ACC win over Virginia Tech.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 30 Wake Forest women's tennis team picked up a conference win versus Virginia Tech, 6-1, on Senior Day, Sunday afternoon at Wake Forest Tennis Center.

The Demon Deacons (10-9, 6-5 ACC) started off the day by winning all three doubles matches, taking a 1-0 lead on the Hokies (5-16, 0-13 ACC) heading into singles play.

As singles began, Wake Forest kept the momentum from doubles going. Peyton Pesavento and Eliza Omirou picked up quick straight-set wins advancing the lead to 3-0 early on.

Despite falling down early, the Hokies gained some ground back in the form of a win on court two over Anna Brylin but the Deacs quickly fought back with a straight-set win from Brooke Killingsworth, clinching the match for Wake Forest and giving them a 4-1 lead with two matches left.

After clinching the match, the Old Gold and Black ultimately closed out the final two matches, capturing a 6-1 victory on Senior Day.

Quotable

"It a tough day out there today. We played a great doubles point, and then Virginia Tech really pushed us hard in the singles. Peyton and Eliza took care of business in straight sets which, really helps keep the pressure on. Then, Brooke was clutch from behind in the second set to get us the clinching point. I am Really proud of Carolyn and Casie for fighting to the very end despite the team match being decided. Playing those late third set moments is only going to help in the next close one." - Coach Wyshner
