4/18/2021 4:28:00 PM | Women's Tennis

The No. 31 Wake Forest women’s tennis team fell to No. 16 Duke in the final regular season dual match of the season.

DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 31 Wake Forest women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 match on the road at No. 16 Duke Sunday afternoon.

During doubles action, the Demon Deacons (10-11, 6-7 ACC) duo of Peyton Pesavento and Anna Campana seemed to be on their way towards a ranked doubles victory over the Blue Devils (14-5, 9-4 ACC) No. 56 ranked Drummy and Chen.

After being tied at 3-3, Campana and Pesavento grabbed the next two games to take a 5-3 lead. The match went unfinished when Duke grabbed the doubles point.

The Demon Deacons started to climb back in singles play with straight-set victories from Carolyn Campana and Casie Wooten. After the win from Campana, the Deacs were back in the match at 3-2.

Campana picked up a ranked victory in the No. 1 match, controlling the match throughout. She picked up a 6-4 win in the opening frame before battling to a 7-5 clincher in the second set over No. 42 Chen.

Wooten was the first Demon Deacon on the board, racing to a 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 6 position. The freshman from California improved to 6-3 in the No. 6 position this season. She also is now tied for the team lead with 11 singles wins this spring.

Unfortunately, Wake Forest was unable to complete the comeback, falling, 5-2, to the Blue Devils.

Quotable

"It was a tough match today. We needed that doubles point on the road against a top-20 team. Losing that put us in a hole we couldn't dig out of. Carolyn and Casie were great and all the singles battled. We are excited to go to ACC's this week in Rome, Ga.." - Head Coach Jeff Wyshner
