15 Demon Deacons Qualify For NCAA East Prelims

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest track and field team prepares to begin the NCAA outdoor postseason with 15 to the NCAA East Preliminary Round announced Thursday (May 20) by the NCAA.

Led by top-5 seeds Zach Facioni (men's 5000 meters) and Alexandra Roberts (women's javelin), Wake Forest will bring 15 entries spanning 11 different events to the East Prelims to be held May 26-29 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.

The four-day competition, which features 48 qualifiers in each individual event and 24 teams in each relay, will serve as the opening rounds of the NCAA Outdoor Championships to be held June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore. The top-12 finishers in each event from the East Region and the top 12 from the West Region will comprise the 24-person fields at Oregon.

Men Qualifiers
ACC silver medalist Facioni headlines a deep distance squad that includes Aaron Las Heras (1,500 / 5,000 meters), Jack Tiernan and Joaquin Martinez De Pinillos (5,000 meters) and Ben Hill (steeplechase).

Thomas Kitchell (shot put/discus) heads up a throws group that features Andrew White (shot put) and Michael Yow (hammer).

Women Qualifiers
On the women's side Roberts highlights with Hannah Brookover and Elise Wright (steeplechase), Cassie Martin (high jump) and fellow thrower Rachel Kern (javelin).
