WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball program has signed Oklahoma graduate transfer Alondes Williams. He enters the 2020-21 season with one year of eligibility remaining.
"Alondes Williams is a talented scorer and playmaker that has competed at the highest level over the past two seasons at Oklahoma under Lon Kruger" head coach Steve Forbes said. "Alondes will be an outstanding addition to our team, giving us experience, size, and athleticism in our backcourt."
During his two seasons with Oklahoma, the Sooners notched six wins over ranked opponents and OU reached the second round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament. He played in 55 games and tallied 24 starts during his tenure in Norman.
The 6-5, 201-pounder averaged 6.7 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in 2020-21 and recorded a season-best 15 points in the Sooners loss to Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament. Additionally during his first season in Norman, Williams averaged 6.0 points and 1.9 rebounds in 16.6 minutes and scored in double figures seven times.
Prior to his time at OU, Williams spent two years at Triton College in River Grove, Ill. under Steve Christianson, where he was a 1,000-point scorer. As a sophomore, he led the Trojans to a 30-4 record with averages of 17.0 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists while shooting 50.4 percent from the floor and 40.4 percent from 3-point range. For his efforts, he was named North Central Community College Conference (N4C) Player of the Year and was a First Team All-Region IV selection. As a freshman, he averaged 13.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists in 36 games and shot 57.7 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from downtown. That season in 2017-18, he helped Triton capture the 2018 NJCAA Division II championship, scoring 22 points with seven rebounds in the title game.
A native of Milwaukee, Wis. Williams attended Riverside High School.
Williams joins many other newcomers to Wake Forest for the 2021-22 season that have been announced this offseason including Jake LaRavia, who earned Second Team All-MVC accolades last season at Indiana State, Damari Monsanto, who was named the 2020-21 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year at East Tennessee State, and Dallas Walton who brings a wealth of experience as he helped Colorado advance to the Pac-12 title game twice and the second round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
This foursome joins Coach Forbes' first signing class that includes Lucas Taylor, who is the seventh-best prospect in North Carolina and averaged 27.9 points, eight rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.2 steals per game at Heirtage High School in Wake Forest, N.C., Cameron Hildreth, who is the top-ranked player in the UK by DENG Camps and four-star player ranked No. 1 in England and No. 89 overall by 247Sports, Robert McCray, who is a top-125 recruit by Rivals and ranked the No. 11 combo guard nationally by 247Sports, and Carter Whitt, who was the top-ranked point guard in the state of North Carolina according to 247Sports and joined Wake Forest in the middle of the 2020-21 season. Whitt played in 19 games and made 10 starts at point guard for the Deacs. The Raleigh, N.C. native netted 12 points and added in seven assists against Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament and scored 11 points on 4-8 shooting with four assists in his freshman debut against Catawba. Whitt's nine assists were the most by a Wake Forest freshman since Bryant Crawford dished out nine assists against Coastal Carolina on December 18, 2015.
