Trio of Demon Deacons Set to Start in the U.S. Open

The 121st annual event is scheduled to begin Thursday at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, Calif.
LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Three former Wake Forest men's golfers are scheduled to take part in the 121st U.S. Open at Torrey Pines from Thursday, June 17 to Sunday, June 20.
Thanks to Webb Simpson, who currently ranks 12th in the World Golf Rankings, and Will Zalatoris, who is the only player to finish in the top eight in his last three major appearances, the Demon Deacons have been well represented at majors over the past year.

Both Simpson and Zalatoris are coming off top-30 finishes at the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island. Zalatoris was in contention all weekend long, shooting 1-under-par for the tournament to end the tournament tied for eighth.
Joining them in the U.S. Open field this week is potentially the hottest player on the Korn Ferry Tour, Cameron Young. In May, Young became the 10th player in the Korn Ferry Tour's 32-year history to win back-to-back tournaments, as well as the first player to do so since 2013.

In back-to-back weeks, Young captured the AdventHealth Championship and the Evans Scholars Invitational. His hot streak continued when he won the U.S. Open qualifier in early June with a 36 hole score of 8-under-par.
It will be his second U.S. Open. He played in the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach as an amateur while at Wake Forest.
Young will be the first of the trio to tee off on Thursday with a 10:07 a.m. ET start off hole 10.
