Wake Forest Announces Non-Conference Schedule for 2021-22

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team and head coach Steve Forbes have announced the non-conference portion of the Demon Deacons' 2021-22 schedule.

"Having the opportunity to play in front of our fans eight times during the non-conference portion of our schedule provides our students, fans, and the city of Winston-Salem an outstanding opportunity for everyone to reunite in the Joel and support our team, after not having the chance to do so in person a year ago," said Forbes.

As part of the non-conference schedule, Coach Forbes will make his return to the campus of Northwest Florida State for the Emerald Coast Classic during Thanksgiving Weekend in Destin, Florida. Forbes previously led the Raiders from 2011-13 and amassed a 62-6 record, including an undefeated home record at Raider Arena.

"The Emerald Coast Classic offers our fans a great chance to spend their Thanksgiving weekend in Florida watching high level basketball, while enjoying the beautiful beaches of Destin," Forbes continued. "A year ago, Oregon State made a run to the Elite 8 and LSU advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. This season Penn State will be led by new head coach Micah Shrewsberry."

Wake Forest will be matched up in the tournament's opening round with the Oregon State Beavers, who are coming off a PAC-12 Championship and Elite Eight run in the NCAA Tournament. The Deacs will face either LSU or Penn State in the second round.

Another highlight of the Deacs' schedule is a matchup with Northwestern as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on November 30. At 12-6, the Demon Deacons are tied with Maryland for the second best record in the intra-conference challenge going into its 23rd year.

"Hosting Northwestern as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge adds to a very challenging stretch in our schedule where we will play three, potentially four, high-major opponents in a row, depending on if the ACC schedules a conference game after the ACC/Big Ten Challenge." Coach Forbes said in closing. "We are looking forward to this test."

Making his return to LJVM Coliseum as a head coach this season is former Demon Deacon and three-time All-ACC selection Justin Gray. He will be in his first season as head coach of Western Carolina when they visit Joel Coliseum on Nov. 12.

Wake Forest's non-conference schedule will conclude on Dec. 17 when Wake Forest faces UNC Charlotte in Spectrum Center as part of the inaugural Hall of Fame Shootout.

Game times and broadcast information will be announced at a later date.
