Four Deacs Competed at Historic Winston Salem Open

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Three current members of the Wake Forest men's tennis team along with a former player of the program competed at the Winston-Salem Open.
Noah Rubin, Eduardo Nava, Siddhant Banthia and Matthew Thomson all received berths into the event. Rubin and Nava received entries into the qualifying draw in singles while Banthia and Thomson teamed up for the doubles qualifying draw.
The Winston-Salem Open is an ATP World Tour 250 event and featured players ranked in the Top 50 of the latest ATP World Tour rankings.
NOAH RUBIN
The former 2014 ACC Freshman and Player of the Year for the Demon Deacons opened his tournament with a win over Jc Argone, 7-6, 1-6, 6-4 in the First Round of the ATP Qualifying Singles. He moved on to compete against Lucas Pouille in the Final Round of the ATP Qualifying Singles where he fell 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
After Nick Kyrgios' withdrawal due to a knee injury, Rubin became the lucky loser to face former No. 1 Andy Murray in the main draw. In front of a full crowd, Murray would pull out a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
EDUARDO NAVA
The senior Demon Deacon began the tournament taking on No. 3-seed Pierre-Hughes Herbert in the First Round of Singles Qualifiers, he took the first set 7-6 but conceded the final two sets, 6-3, 6-0.
In the Round of 32, Nava received a lucky loser bid to face Thiago Monteiro where he dropped two sets, 7-5, 6-1.
SIDDHANT BANTHIA & MATTHEW THOMSON
Banthia and Thomson battled with No. 1-seed and former Winston-Salem Open doubles champions Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo in the Round of 16, they fell 6-2, 6-4.
