LAKE ELMO, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team wrapped play at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate Wednesday afternoon. The Deacs finished in third place with two players inside the top 10.
Sophomore Mimi Rhodes had her highest finish of her career to start her sophomore campaign, coming in T5 and five under for the week. She started the final round on a high note with birdies on the first and fourth holes of the day to get to the turn at one under. She followed with back-to-back birdies on 12 and 13 and recorded one more on 16 before ending the day two under.
Junior Lauren Walsh was right behind her, coming in T8 and three under par for the week. After two bogeys on her first eight, Walsh birdied nine and 10 to get through the turn at even par. She bogeyed 11 but responded with another birdie on 12 to even out the scorecard once again. She went on to birdie the par-five 18th to finish the day one under.
Junior Rachel Kuehn rounded out the top 25, coming in at T25 after shooting one over par on the final day. Birdies on 10, 15 and 18 ended her third round to finish three over for the week. Freshman Carolina Chacarra finished 36th in her collegiate debut and grad transfer Virunpat Olankitkunchai finished T41 in her first appearance for the Old Gold & Black.
Coach's Comments
"It was great to start our season with such a competitive event. We always enjoy coming up here and the ANNIKA Foundation and Minnesota do a great job. We always play to win so it's disappointing when that doesn't happen, but we still played some good golf and competed hard as a team." - head coach Kim Lewellen
