No. 16 Deacs Set for ACC Home Opener Against No. 11 Cavaliers

Wake Forest welcomes Virginia to Kentner Stadium on a three-game win streak.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 16 Wake Forest field hockey team welcomes No. 11 Virginia to Kentner Stadium for their Atlantic Coast Conference home opener on Friday, Sept. 24 at 6:00 p.m.
The Deacs (4-3, 1-0 ACC) head into the conference clash with the Cavaliers (5-2, 0-1 ACC) winners of their last three matches, including two wins over ranked opponents on Sept. 17 and 19. Over the last five games, Wake Forest has outshot their opponents by a 103-38 margin and hasn't allowed more than two goals in six of the first seven games to begin the 2021 season.

Last Time Out
The Deacs collected their second ranked victory of the weekend, taking down UMass 3-2 at Kentner Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 19. The Deacs jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to an aggressive offensive attack, outshooting UMass 27-10 in the match and recording 13 corner opportunities to UMass' four. A two-goal fourth period helped the Minutewomen narrow Wake Forest's lead. Undaunted, the Deacs secured the 3-2 victory with defensive intensity in the final minutes.
Opponent & Series History
This year's matchup marks the 48th contest between the Demon Deacons and Cavaliers.
The teams split the four games last season. Wake Forest defeated Virginia 3-2 in their last meeting on March 27, 2021 as Hannah Maxwell scored a golden goal in the 67th-minute.
Lanckohr Earns Conference Recognition After Big Weekend
Meike Lanckohr was named the ACC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 21, the first weekly honor of her career. Lanckohr led Wake Forest's offensive attack with a trio of goals in back-to-back wins over top-25 opponents in No. 17 Duke and No. 21 UMass.
In the Deacs' ACC opener against the Blue Devils on Friday, Sept. 17, Lanckohr netted two first-half goals in the 3-1 victory, her second multi-goal performance of her career. On Sunday, Sept. 19, the Voerendaal, Netherlands native found the back of the net for the Deacs' first goal of the game.
Overall, Lanckohr has scored a team-high six goals this season, good for second in the conference and tied for 15th overall.
Glaister a Mainstay in Goal
Tori Glaister has made 11-straight starts in goal for Wake Forest. In Wake Forest's last game against UMass, the sophomore made a season-high four saves. Dating back to last season, Glaister now has 13 multi-save games in a row.
Additionally, Glaister and the Demon Deacon defense hasn't conceded more than two goals in six out of their first seven contests to open the 2021 campaign.
The Streak Continues
Wake Forest was ranked No. 16 in the fourth National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll of the 2021 season, marking the 31th-straight poll the Deacs have been ranked. The fifth top-25 poll will be released on Sept. 28.
Last season, the Deacs rose all the way to No. 9, it's highest NHFCA ranking in school history.
On Deck
Wake Forest will now start a three-match road trip against Louisville (Friday, Oct. 1), Miami (OH) (Sunday, Oct. 3) and Syracuse (Friday, Oct. 8).
