1/11/2022 2:20:00 PM | Men's Basketball
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team will wrap up its three-game homestand on Wednesday evening against Tobacco Road rival Duke inside Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Demon Deacons (13-3, 3-2) are a perfect 10-0 at home this season after a gritty 77-74 overtime victory over Syracuse - the team's third overtime win of the season.
Tough defense prevailed for the second-consecutive game as the team was able to hold the Orange to 36 percent from the field and 27.6 percent from beyond the arc - over 10 percent lower than their previous average of 38.6 percent.
On the other end, four Deacs finished in double-figures with Alondes Williams' 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting leading the pack. Williams also pulled in 12 rebounds en route to his first double-double and zipped a no-look pass to Dallas Walton right at the basket for the overtime-forcing dunk as one of his four assists.
Isaiah Mucius played a key role in the contest from beyond the arc, where he scored 12 of his 18 points. Mucius has now connected on at least three triples in each of his past six games and is averaging 14.0 points and 4.8 rebounds over the same span.
Khadim Sy (13 points) and Jake LaRavia (12 points) were the final two Deacs to reach double-figures. LaRavia finished one rebound shy of a double-double and added four assists.
Wake Forest currently ranks 35th in the country in field goal percentage (47.8) and 31st in the country in points per game (80.0). Those marks represent the third and second-best marks in the ACC, respectively. On defense, the Deacs have held their first five ACC opponents to a combined 39.6 percent from the field, a mark that leads the ACC so far in conference play.
The Blue Devils (12-2, 2-1) head to Winston-Salem following their 76-74 loss to Miami on Saturday in Durham. Coach K's squad is ranked No. 8 in the country and currently leads the ACC in both field goal percentage (48.5) and points per game (83.3).
Tipoff inside LJVM Coliseum is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET and the game will air live on ACC Network.
