
Deacs Enjoy Shutout Saturday

Wake Forest moved to 83-4 in home matches since the start of the 2016-17 season.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The 10th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team handily defeated Coastal Carolina and Elon Saturday in doubleheader matches, 7-0 and 7-0.
The morning match saw Wake Forest (4-0) run the table in 7-0 fashion against Coastal Carolina (0-1), before taking a 7-0 decision over Elon (0-1) in the afternoon.
In the first dual match, senior Rrezart Cungu clinched against Coastal Carolina at the No. 3 spot and Filippo Moroni clinched the second match for the Deacs Saturday at the No. 4 singles position.
Wake Forest is now 83-4 in home matches since the start of the 2016-17 season.

Coastal Carolina
In the morning match, the doubles pair of Siddhant Banthia and Thomson defeated Coastal Carolina's Guilherme Toresan and Neil O'Connor, 6-2.
Wake Forest's Edurdo Nava and Filippo Moroni paired up at the No. 1 doubles slot and took down Federico Garnier and Diego Giraldo, 6-3 to clinch the third-straight doubles point of the year. Robert Maciag and Ben Draper's doubles match went unfinished, trailing 5-4.
In singles action, Thomson, a sophomore, speedily won his match, 6-3, 6-1 over Steve Mundt. No. 100 Taha Baadi was soon to follow, as he was victorious over Diego Giraldo, 6-2, 6-2.
Cungu, the Ulcinj, Montenegro native, clinched the season-opening match with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win over the Chanticleer's Federico Garnier.
The match would be played out, as No. 117 Robert Maciag defeated Niccolo Rossi, 6-1, 6-1, and Juan Lopez de Azona claimed a win against Daiki Tanabe, 6-1, 6-2. Melios Efstathiou picked up a ranked win, 6-3, 6-2, over No. 46 Bastien Huon.

Elon
The afternoon match began with a stifling attack from Nava and Moroni in doubles, trouncing Camilo Ponce and Kyle Frankel, 6-2. Draper and Maciag, defeated Nicholas Campbell and Chung-Han Tsai, 7-6 (3), to clinch the doubles point for the Deacs in the second match of the day. Banthia and Thomson's doubles match went unfinished, trailing 5-6 at the time of the clinch.
The day's second round of singles play saw Banthia win in dominant fashion, 6-3, 6-1, giving Wake Forest a 2-0 advantage. Following that effort was Nava, who breezed to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Frankel.
Moroni gave the Demon Deacons the clinching point, using a dominant second set to earn a 7-5, 6-1 victory as the Deacs won their second match of the day. The rest of the singles matches of Cungu, Baadi and Maciag finished out following the clinch.
