Wake Forest, Louisville Meeting at Spry Stadium in Regular Season Finale

Wake Forest and Louisville will battle on Friday night in a match that will secure a first round ACC Tournament bye for one of the two sides.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest men's soccer will look to secure a first round bye in the 2022 ACC Tournament when the Demon Deacons host No. 9 Louisville on Friday night in a nationally televised showdown at Spry Stadium. 

Kick-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the match will air on ACC Network.  

Prior to the match, the program will honor the senior class of Sebastian Scrivner, Cole McNally, David Wrona, Takuma Suzuki and Omar Hernandez. Together, this group has helped lead Wake Forest to 54 victories over the last four seasons and were members of the 2019 College Cup squad.

In addition to honoring the 2022 senior class prior to kick-off, there will be a Fan Fest held on the Spry practice fields from 7-10 p.m. including nine-hole putt putt, face painting, giant lawn games and more.

2022 Wake Forest soccer season tickets are on-sale now giving fans the opportunity to witness The Best Fan Experience In North Carolina from a number of unique seating options. Season tickets start as low as $45 and offer as much as a $220 savings off of purchasing individual single game tickets. 

New to the ticketing menu this year are five and 10 game FLEX options, giving fans maximum flexibility when choosing which home games to attend. FLEX season ticket members will simply open their digital FLEX account, and add or remove games as they decide which dates they are available to attend. Members may even use multiple admissions for a single game to bring a friend, family member or guest with them. If more FLEX tickets are needed, additional admissions may be purchased through the Wake Forest Ticket Office. FLEX admissions are able to be used for redemption at both men's and women's soccer games.

The Matchup 

  • Wake Forest and Louisville will collide on Friday night with a first round bye in the ACC Tournament at stake. The Demon Deacons enter the match with 12 points in ACC play for a third place standing in the Atlantic Division while the Cardinals are in second place at 13 points. 

  • With a victory, the Demon Deacons would jump ahead of the Cardinals in the standings and earn a first round bye in the 2022 ACC Tournament. Louisville, meanwhile, can earn a share of the Atlantic Division title with a win and a Syracuse loss against Boston College. 

  • Wake Forest enters the match with a 12-4-0 overall record on the season and is 9-1-0 in action at Spry Stadium. 

  • Louisville is 9-3-3 on the season and 3-1-1 away from Lynn Stadium, highlighted by conference victories at NC State and Notre Dame. 

  • This will be the 16th all-time meeting between Wake Forest and Louisville with the Deacs holding an 11-4-0 advantage in the series. Seven of those victories for Wake Forest have come at Spry Stadium. 

Last Time Out

  • Despite more than doubling Virginia's shot output (15-7) Wake Forest was unable to secure a road victory last Saturday, falling to the Cavaliers by a final of 1-0. 

  • After a sixth-minute free kick from sophomore Ryan Fessler that banged off the post, Wake Forest recorded three shots on goal in the second half but were all saved. 

  • Virginia would collect the match's lone goal in the 63rd minute and then held on until the final whistle. Wake Forest recorded seven shots after the Cavaliers struck. 

  • Twenty Demon Deacons recorded action in the contest.

Scouting The Cardinals

  • Louisville, like Wake Forest, is one of four ACC programs on the season allowing less than one goal per match (0.87). The Cardinals have recorded six clean sheets including three in their last four ACC matches. 

  • Ryan Troutman has started the last nine matches in goal for Louisville, needing to record just 15 saves while sporting a 0.56 goals against per match average. 

  • Offensively, the Cardinals have been led in scoring by the trio of Aboubacar Camara (five goals), Konstantinos Georgallides (four goals) and Brandon McManus (four goals). 

  • Sander Roed leads the team in assists (eight) and ranks second in the ACC in that statistical category.

Looking Ahead

  • Wake Forest will turn its attention to the ACC Tournament, as the Demon Deacons are guaranteed to host a match next week.  

  • The ACC Tournament will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 2 with four first round matchups and concludes with the Championship Match on Sunday, Nov. 13. The first three rounds are at campus sites with the finals being played at WakeMed Sports Park in Cary, N.C.
