Midweek trip to Durham.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Having reached its final week of regular-season road action, Wake Forest volleyball (14-12, 6-9) holds one more Big Four test this week, visiting Duke University (15-11, 6-9) on Wednesday (Nov. 16) for a second matchup against the Blue Devils within the last ten days.

Wednesday's match will be televised on the ACC Network, slated for a 6 p.m. ET start time.

Wake Forest hosted Duke in Reynolds Gymnasium back on Nov. 6.

Most recently, the Demon Deacons grabbed a Sunday home win over Virginia Tech (Nov. 13), doing so in a four-set, comeback fashion.

The Match

Wednesday, Nov. 16 – Wake Forest at Duke – 6 p.m. ET

Last Time Out

Sunday, Nov. 13 – Wake Forest 3, Virginia Tech 1

Eager to be back on the court following a week-long break from match play, Wake Forest brought a buzz to Reynolds Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 13). Facing Virginia Tech for the second time in less than two weeks, the Demon Deacons took three straight sets after dropping the first to defeat the Hokies, 3-1, in their eighth home win of the season (18-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-22).

Andrea Fuentes finished with 37 assists – her highest mark in an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) match this year. Fuentes also added 13 digs for her sixth season double-double.

Olivia Franke helped set the tone in the middle, tying her career-high in kills (12) on a .500 hitting percentage. Her total of five digs was a new personal-best mark in a single match. Defensively, Franke stood out with four blocks.

Emma Farrell anchored the defense at the libero spot, making dives and gathering a match-high 22 digs. The freshman's mark was her best in a conference showing.

Paige Crawford led all Deacs with 14 kills. Emmy Ogogor added nine kills (.368 attacking percentage) and four blocks. Audrey Douglas posted eight kills, four digs, and assisted on three blocks.

Kalani Whillock and Megan Merril contributed 11 and 10 digs, respectively, to have four Demon Deacons tally double-figures in digs.

Two-Time Honoree

For her performance of 22 digs in the Virginia Tech win, Emma Farrell was named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Freshman of the Week on Tuesday (Nov. 15), announced by the league office.

This is the second time this season that Farrell has received such recognition from the ACC, the first of which occurred back on Sept. 19. Additionally, Paige Crawford picked up Freshman of the Week selections twice last month (Oct. 10 and Oct. 17). Wake Forest has now had two freshmen notch weekly ACC honors on multiple occasions for the first time in program history.

Having maintained her place as the conference's digs-per-set leader (4.49) since week two of the fall campaign, Farrell has now recorded 20 or more digs in eight matches:

  • Versus Western Carolina (8/27/22) – 27 digs

  • Versus Arizona (9/2/22) – 28 digs

  • Versus South Carolina (9/3/22) – 21 digs

  • Versus Sam Houston (9/10/22) – 20 digs

  • Versus Davidson (9/16/22) – 22 digs

  • At Charlotte (9/17/22) – 21 digs

  • At Louisville (10/16/22) – 20 digs

  • Versus Virginia Tech (11/13/22) – 22 digs

Another Week, Another Milestone

Andrea Fuentes reached another milestone this past Sunday (Nov. 13), recording the 1,500th assist of her Wake Forest tenure. For her collegiate career, she sits at 4,590 assists. She passed the 4,500 mark on Oct. 28 when the Deacons faced nationally-ranked Pittsburgh at home.
