Deacs Face Alabama in Bahar Mar Pink Flamingo Championship Finale

Wednesday’s game will be the first matchup between Wake Forest and Alabama in program history.

NASSAU, Bahamas – The Wake Forest women's basketball team concludes play at the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship, playing Alabama on Wednesday from Nassau, Bahamas.

The Deacs (3-2) will look to bounce back after a loss to undefeated Missouri on Monday. Both of the Demon Deacons losses this season have come to undefeated teams. Wake Forest has been led by inspiring performances from senior forward Olivia Summiel in the last two games. She has led the Deacs in scoring in both contests, averaging 12.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 blocks per game.

The Crimson Tide (2-2) have dropped their last two games entering the contest on Wednesday including a 93-86 loss against No. 17 Utah on Monday. Through four games, Alabama has been led offensively by guard Brittany Davis who has averaged 19.5 points per game. Additionally, the Crimson Tide have one of the best shot blockers in the nation as Jada Rice has averaged 3.25 blocks per game which ranks eighth nationally.

CLEANING THE GLASS

Through five games this season, junior forward Demeara Hinds has been one of the best players on the glass in the country, pulling down 48 rebounds. Additionally, she has collected 22 offensive rebounds.

Through five games played, she ranks second among all Power-5 players with that offensive rebound total and her total is tied for fifth nationally.

Additionally, her 48 total rebounds ranks 23rd nationally and leads the ACC. Hinds has pulled down nine or more rebounds in the last four games.

  • The Deacs were led by another strong effort from senior forward Olivia Summiel, who led the Demon Deacons in scoring for the second-consecutive game. Summiel posted a team-best 12 points, knocking down 4-of-7 threes. Summiel added six rebounds and tied her career high with four assists.

  • Junior forward Demeara Hinds continues to be a bright spot on the glass, totaling a team-best nine rebounds in the loss to Missouri Monday night. Hinds came into the game averaging 9.8 rebounds per game and ranked in the top 25 nationally in total rebounds. Through five games, she has pulled down a total of 48 boards.

CHASING 1,000

After breaking the program record with 30 double-figure scoring games, netting the fourth-most points in school history a season ago with 567 and leading the ACC in scoring with 18.3 points per game, junior Jewel Spear has put herself in position to join exclusive company in the 1,000-point club early in the season.

She goes into the Alabama game with 906 career points, just 94 points away from becoming the 30th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
