Good Afternoon Demon Deacon Nation,

It has been a busy week at Wake Forest as men's basketball's Andrew Carr hit a game-winner to lead the Deacs in a victory over in-state foe App State on Wednesday night to remain a perfect 6-0 at home inside Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Wednesday night's buzzer-beater marked the second time this season that the Deacs have had the No. 1 play in ESPN SportsCenter's Top-10 plays of the day! Meanwhile, Coach Megan Gebbia's women's squad used a record-setting 33-point third quarter outburst to capture their fifth-straight win over Longwood at home last night.

Prior to the game, I was honored to join Coach Gebbia in recognizing one of the best players in the Atlantic Coast Conference as Jewel Spear scored her 1,000th career point last Sunday in the Deacs win at Charlotte

Every night something exciting happens with our basketball teams, so don't miss out

With exams successfully completed, both hoops teams are flying north. Our men's squad will be in New Jersey at Rutgers tomorrow for a noon tip on Big Ten Network, and our women's team plays at Syracuse at 12 p.m. Sunday on the ACC Network. Remember, if you are in the area when the Deacs are on the road, even a handful of passionate fans wearing the Old Gold & Black and showing their support can make a difference! You can find ticket information for our men's game in Piscataway here and our women's game in up-state New York on Sunday here

Meanwhile, thanks in part to your support, our two hoops squads are a combined 11-0 inside Joel Coliseum! As we strive to provide the Best Fan Experience in North Carolina, remember to be on the lookout for our periodic postgame surveys in your email inbox and provide your feedback and suggestions to help us continue to better serve you, your family and friends. Or, feel free to email your thoughts to wfsports@wfu.edu anytime!

As your family travels to Winston-Salem for the holidays, you can get your shopping done at the expanded Deacon Shop inside the Joel Coliseum entry atrium at our men's basketball game on Tuesday vs. Duke at 6:30 p.m and in the Deacon Shop's on campus and at Hanes Mall.

We are expecting a great crowd for Tuesday's home clash with Duke and are delighted to have the Reagan High School band joining the Spirit of the Old Gold and Black to help provide a great atmosphere for the 6:30 p.m. tipoff. Additionally, we have home women's games on Dec. 22 (Rhode Island at 1 p.m.) and Dec. 29 (Pitt at 6 p.m.), and then a New Year's Eve noon clash for the men with Virginia Tech

The quickest and most efficient way to order single, package and season tickets is to visit GoDeacs.com/Tickets and purchase online, or call the Wake Forest Ticket Office at 336-758-3322 ext. 1. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Before I jump into the rest of the updates, I want to wish everyone in our Wake Forest and Winston-Salem community Happy Holidays! I hope that each of you have the opportunity over the next few weeks to relax and spend some time with your family and friends. For our Demon Deacon student-athletes, this is a well-deserved break after a great academic semester and solid fall season of competition.

Twenty-Two Demon Deacons Earn Degrees in December
While we're all getting together with family and friends in the coming weeks for the holidays, 22 student-athletes have a little extra to celebrate with their loved ones as we had 17 football players, three from our men's soccer program, two field hockey players and one women's soccer student-athlete earn their degrees this month. Completing their degree is an important part of providing a World Class Student-Athlete Experience and we are grateful for all those who impacted these talented young men and women during their journey at Wake Forest.

CP3 Scores WSSU Degree!
Earlier this morning, our hometown hero Chris Paul jetted into Smith Reynolds Airport in Winston-Salem after chalking up 15 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds to lead the Phoenix Suns to victory last night in Los Angeles. He arrived just in time to participate in Winston-Salem State University's graduation ceremony at the Coliseum Annex. Immediately afterward, the Paul family celebrated in the Allegacy Club inside Joel Coliseum - where Chris thrilled us all during his Wake Forest basketball career. It was special for me to attend and congratulate Chris and give his "Parent Hall of Fame" mom and dad, Robin and Charles, a hug. The entire Paul family is relentlessly committed to education, helping young people and is dedicated to serving the Winston-Salem, Wake Forest and Winston-Salem State communities in true Pro Humanitate fashion. Please join me in congratulating Chris - who immediately heads back to work to get ready to face the Pelicans tomorrow night back in Phoenix!

Student-Athletes Embody "Pro Humanitate" By Spreading Holiday Cheer
Speaking of spreading holiday cheer, Chip Rives, a former Wake Forest football player, would be extremely proud as our student-athletes continue the Santa's Helper tradition he founded back in 1986. Our young men and women wrapped and delivered presents that served over 300 families and 1,000 children in the Winston-Salem community.

2022 Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl - Sunshine State Awaits!
It's hard to believe, but we are just one week away from our 2022 football season coming to an exciting conclusion in Tampa at the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl inside Raymond James Stadium! The team and travel party will depart for Florida on Monday afternoon and the game will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 23 and will be televised nationally on ESPN. This trip to the Sunshine State will mark Wake Forest's fifth bowl experience in Florida and second-straight following last year's victory in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl in Jacksonville.

Click here to read about student and fan ticket options for the game. Response to our annual pregame bowl tailgate party was so great that we've already moved to a bigger space, inside Raymond James Stadium in the West Hyundai Club! The fun starts at 3:30 p.m. and fans can register and purchase tickets to the pregame tailgate here. Tickets are $50 for adults, $20 for children 12 and under and include great food, two drink tickets, your favorite Old Gold & Black beads, music, plus exclusive Gasparilla Bowl gear!

Again this year, generous Wake Forest donors and Parent's Council members have enabled our students the opportunity to purchase a subsidized $25 game ticket that they can claim through Screamin' Demon Rewards App via a promotional code that was emailed directly to them. This subsidized ticket includes free access to the aforementioned pregame party inside the West Hyundai Club! To enable more opportunities for our passionate and supportive student body, please click here if you'd like to contribute!

Registration for the tailgate closes Monday, Dec. 19 at 9 a.m. You can also check out this list of things to see, eat, and drink, compiled by members of our WAKETampa/St.Petersburg community! And, please be aware that Raymond James Stadium is a totally cashless venue and only very small size bags are allowed (4.6" x 6.5")!

Don't Miss Out! 2023 Football Season Ticket Deposits Available Now
While the electric atmosphere from the 2022 season at Truist Field can still be felt across Winston-Salem and the Triad, there is no better time to claim your spot for next season. Thanks to the incredible leadership of Coach Dave Clawson and the hard work of his staff and players, along with the incredible fan support and energy every week inside Truist Field, Wake Forest is 20-4 at home since the start of the 2019 season. With the continued success of the football program, there is no better time to be at Truist Field! Season ticket deposits for the 2023 season are available now for $50 per seat

News Surrounding Innovative Truist Field Seat Rights Program
Originally launched in 2008, the football seat rights program gave Wake Forest fans the ability to lock in the same great seat location at Truist Field for up to 25 years. In addition to this benefit, the seat rights program was created with the intention of investing in the fan experience at Wake Forest football, with the original round of funding used for stadium enhancements like new concession stands and renovated restrooms.

As we look to continue to provide The Best Fan Experience in North Carolina, Wake Forest is relaunching the seat rights program in advance of the 2023 season. Funds generated from the program will continue to be reinvested into fan amenities such as an enhanced sound system, game field replacement, concessions enhancements, and more.

Opting in, or remaining within the seat rights program, is the only way to guarantee the same seat you have on an annual basis!

To learn more about the seat rights program at Wake Forest, fill out an interest form to be contacted by a sales representative or contact the Wake Forest Ticket Office from Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (336) 758-3322 ext. 1.

From the Quad Big 3
Before we close, here are today's Big 3 ways to help the Deacs:
  1. Read about how Wake Forest senior Tal Feldman was recently named to the 2023-24 class of Schwarzman Scholars. Scholars selected from around the world will complete a one-year, fully-funded Master's degree program in Global Affairs at Schwarzman College on the campus of Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. The program aspires to build a global network of young leaders that are prepared to confront the pressing challenges facing the world. Congrats, Tal!
  2. If you are like me and just getting started on your holiday shopping, remember that tickets to Wake Forest events make great stocking stuffers! Also, visit Wake Forest Athletics partners at DeaconShop.com or WakeForestShop.com for all the latest gear!
  3. Share this graphic on your social media platforms to recognize the incredible efforts of our head coaches and our student-athletes, as Coach John Hayes winning the ACC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year honor marked the fifth league honor by one of our great leaders in the past 12 months.
As we close, we extend our sympathies to the family of Coach Mike Leach in the aftermath of his tragic passing earlier this week. I have some great memories of my interactions and time with Coach Leach and we, as well as our friends at Mississippi State, Washington State and Texas Tech, former players he's impacted, and the college football community will miss him.

Please hug those who are closest to you, enjoy a safe and restful weekend, sport your #WFFriday Old Gold & Black, send your thoughts to me at wfuad@wfu.edu, and...
