WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team will host the Miami Hurricanes in Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, February 12.
The Demon Deacons (20-5, 10-4) have won seven of their last eight contests and currently sit in sole possession of third place in the ACC standings following their 69-51 road victory over NC State on Wednesday. Duke and Notre Dame are tied for the top spot in the standings.
After his 23-point, eight-rebound outing at Florida State, Alondes Williams led the team in scoring again in Raleigh with 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds and six assists for his third double-double of the season. Williams scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half and dished four of his seven assists during the team's 19-2 run to close the contest.
Williams currently leads the ACC in both points and assists and is the only player in the country averaging at least 19.0 points (19.6), 7.0 rebounds (7.1), and 5.0 assists (5.3). The Milwaukee product has the opportunity to be the first player to finish the season leading the ACC in points and assists since the conference began tracking assists in 1973.
With Jake LaRavia's six points and eight assists against the Wolfpack, the Williams/LaRavia duo is averaging 34.3 points per game and 9.1 assists per game, making them the top scoring tandem in the ACC and the runner-up pair in assists just behind Virginia's Reece Beekman and Kihei Clark (9.2).
Through 14 ACC games, the Demon Deacons lead the conference in both team (50.0) and opponent field goal percentage (39.2). Wake Forest has held nine of its first 14 ACC opponents to below 40 percent shooting and leads the conference with seven ACC victories by 15 points or more.
Additionally, the Demon Deacons rank first in conference play in fouls drawn (17.2), third in total rebounds per game (37.0), third in blocks per game (4.1) and second in assists per game (15.8).
The Hurricanes (17-7, 9-4) are coming off a 79-70 victory over Georgia Tech on Wednesday and occupy fourth place in the ACC standings. Miami is one of two ACC teams to feature two players in the top-10 of the league in scoring, with Kameron McGusty (17.6, fifth) and Isaiah Wong (15.6, eighth).
The winner of Saturday's contest will take control of third place in the conference standings with the opportunity to move up with losses from either Duke or Notre Dame.
Tipoff inside LJVM Coliseum is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will air live on Bally Sports South and other regional sports networks.
