BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The second day of the ACC Indoor Championships ended with Emma Soderstrom walking away with First All-ACC honors in the women's high jump, respectively. Soderstrom posted a 1.78m mark before nearly clearing the 1.81m goal.
In addition to Soderstrom earning hardware, Andrew White and Tony Jones walked away with Second All-ACC honors.
Not to be overshadowed, junior Joaquin Martinez de Pinillos set the school record in the 5000m with a 13:55.85 mark, beating the previous record held by teammate Zach Facioni by six seconds. Due to the impressive field, Martinez de Pinillos only finished ninth in the event.
White posted a personal best and became the second Demon Deacon to surpass the 21-meter mark in weight throw with a 21.04m as Jones earned a season best of 2.14m in high jump to eclipse a solid indoor season. Besides White, Jack Pihlkar and Thomas Kitchell set new personal records while placing seventh and 11th.
In the mile prelims, Thomas Vanoppen set the second fastest time out of all of the heats with a 4:04.27 mark and will compete in the final on Saturday at 1:10 p.m. Rynard Swanepoel finished his 800m prelim heat with an impressive finish, placing him in the finals on Saturday also.
Wake Forest tallied seven personal best and three season best marks on Friday. With that, complete results from Friday's events, this weekend's schedule and all meet information for the week is below.
Competition continues on Friday for the Demon Deacons with the meet airing on ACC Network Extra.
DIRECTOR OF TRACK & FIELD JOHN HAYES:
"We continue to get some very good performances. Tony Jones improves every week and will undoubtedly have a great outdoor season after missing significant fall training. The most consistent and important quality that I'm seeing across event groups is the effort. That is a life lesson that these student-athletes will take with them throughout college and into their careers."
