The Demon Deacons will participate in three matches, watch six of Europe’s top professional clubs compete and take in historic landmarks while overseas.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - In the continued effort to create a World-Class Student-Athlete Experience, the Wake Forest men's soccer team, in partnership with Vertex Soccer, will travel to England from March 4-13. The Demon Deacons will compete against three teams while also seeing six of the world's best clubs compete on an international stage during the 10-day international trip.
"The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to England and gain exposure to another culture, further our team bonds, play matches against international competition and see world-class professional teams compete is one our program is eagerly looking forward to during this trip," said head coach Bobby Muuss. "For many of our student-athletes, this will be their first time outside of the United States and seeing what the rich and historic English culture offers.
"We are also excited to catch up with Demon Deacon legend and current Leeds United winger Jack Harrison, who continues to represent Wake Forest at a first-class level. We would also like to thank Vertex Soccer for making this trip possible and providing an experience that will create lifelong memories for the program."
While abroad, the Demon Deacons are currently slated to compete against U-23 academy teams for Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City along with Brentford B, weather and schedule permitting. The Deacs will also see renowned historic landmarks including Buckingham Palace, Etihad Stadium, Anfield, King Power Stadium and the state-of-the-art training grounds for Manchester City.
Over a four-day span from March 5-8, the team will see Harrison and Leeds United face Leicester City, head to Etihad Stadium to see current Premier League leader Manchester City face Manchester United in the famed Manchester Derby and head to Anfield to see the second leg of a Champions League Round of 16 match between Liverpool and Inter Milan.
The Deacs have been busy thus far this spring, the program has given back to the Winston-Salem and Triad communities through numerous community engagement efforts. In conjunction with A Bed and a Book, the team has fundraised, built and delivered beds for children in need, worked with SPARK and Wake Forest alum Amber T. Harris to clear trails for the local community to use and hosted the second-annual Goal-A-Thon with proceeds going to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC.
Following the completion of his seventh season as head coach, Wake Forest under Muuss has collected a combined record of 115-26-12 with two ACC Tournament titles and two trips to the NCAA College Cup.
The 115 wins during that span are most in the country and 10 more than any other program. The Demon Deacons have had 16 MLS SuperDraft selections over the last seven years – including Harrison who was picked No. 1 overall in 2016 – and nine Homegrown Contract signings since 2017, most in the country.
Additionally, Wake Forest holds the ACC's longest streak of consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances at 11-straight years and the team's seven-straight Sweet Sixteen appearances is tied for the longest streak nationally.
