Demon Deacons Fall 2-1 at Virginia Tech

Wake Forest will return to action Saturday as it hosts Virginia at Spry Stadium.
BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Wake Forest men's soccer team suffered its first ACC defeat of the season Sunday evening, falling 2-1 to Virginia Tech at Thompson Field.
The Demon Deacons fall to 4-2-1 overall and 1-1-0 in ACC play, while Virginia Tech improves to 3-2-1 and 1-0-1 in league action.
Virginia Tech jumped out to an early two-goal advantage, scoring in the sixth and 16th minutes.
Wake Forest cut the deficit in half just before halftime when sophomore Alfred Debah scored his first goal of the season in the 44th minute.
Freshman Nolan Tinsley made an immediate impact when, just under 20 minutes into his collegiate debut, he fought to progress the ball forward before finding fellow freshman Philip Biskupski driving into the box. Biskupski then played it across to Debah, who calmly finished into the bottom-right corner.
The Demon Deacons generated the majority of the attacking chances in the second half and put five shots on target, but were unable to find an equalizer.

"I am frustrated and disappointed with the result. We were asleep at the wheel for a majority of the game and I need to do a better job getting the guys ready to play. We forgot how to play football. In this conference you cannot take halves, or even spells, off. We allowed the game to get end to end. This is a match that we wanted but unfortunately don't get back. Frustrated is a very good word. On to the next, we will start our prep for Virginia on the ride home tonight."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Virginia Tech opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Uwimana converted an unassisted chance to give the Hokies a 1-0 advantage.
- Vazquez doubled the Virginia Tech lead in the 16th minute, finishing a chance set up by Yohannes and Uwimana.
- Wake Forest responded late in the opening half when Debah scored in the 44th minute off assists from Biskupski and Tinsley, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
- The Demon Deacons came out aggressively after halftime, with Henry Rosenfeld forcing a save just over four minutes into the second half and Chandler Young doing the same shortly thereafter.
- Biskupski had another opportunity in the 59th minute, but Dauzier made another save to keep Virginia Tech in front.
- Jeffrey White forced another save in the 63rd minute, while Tate Lorentz put a final shot on frame in the 90th minute, but Wake Forest was unable to find an equalizer.
