Women’s tennis picked up its third ACC victory on Friday.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 23 Wake Forest women's tennis impressed as a unit on Friday evening (March 25), defeating Syracuse (7-7, 1-6) on the road in a 6-1 decision.

Friday was the Demon Deacons' (11-6, 3-3) second Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) road win in a row. Additionally, the team moved ahead to a 10-4 all-time series lead over the Orange.

After capturing the doubles point, Wake Forest earned two more points before sophomore Casie Wooten once again came in the clutch to deliver a 4-0 clinch in fourth singles. The Torrance, Calif. native climbed ahead to a team-leading 12 season wins.

No. 8 Anna Brylin/Brooke Killingsworth grabbed their second ranked win of the spring. Brylin also reached her eleventh victory in singles, while Killingsworth stretched her ongoing solo win streak to seven matches.

How it Happened

  • Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth coasted through their first trio of games to open doubles, taking a 3-0 edge.

    • Wake Forest's other two duos also started well with 2-1 leads.

  • Brylin and Killingsworth surrendered only one game en route to a 6-1 finish on court one.

  • Mia Ahmad and Carolyn Campana went into a tied match in third doubles, 3-3.

  • The first portion of the afternoon wouldn't last much longer, as Samantha Martinelli and Casie Wooten clinched the doubles point on a 6-2 win.

    • Ahmad and Carolyn Campana's match was left unfinished, as the Deac pair trailed 4-3.

  • An abandoned match in sixth singles extended Wake Forest's lead to 2-0.

  • Each of the remaining five Deacs initiated stellar starts in the first period of singles, headlined by Brylin and No. 48 Carolyn Campana's 5-1 clips.

  • In a familiar manner, Brylin became the first Deac to win a singles set (6-1).

    • Carolyn Campana wrapped her opening frame shortly afterward, taking a 6-3 advantage.

    • Wake Forest ultimately picked up first-set wins by each individual player.

  • Brylin continued her brilliance, racking up three unanswered games in her second set.

  • Carolyn Campana had a like-minded focused approach, setting the tone with a 3-1 boost in the first half of set two.

  • Brylin only let up four games in her two frames of play, notching a solo victory to increase the Demon Deacon lead, 3-0.

  • Second sets soon became tightly-played for Killingworth, Wooten, Carolyn Campana, and Anna Campana.

  • Wooten would be the one to firstly pull through, putting Wake Forest up 4-0 and securing the match victory.

  • Carolyn Campana hung on through three sets to chip into the Deacs' lead, 5-0.

  • Syracuse won in second singles.

  • Killingsworth's three-set mark put the contest to an end, as she built a comfortable lead early in the final frame.

  • Wake Forest routed Syracuse, 6-1.

From the Head Honcho

"It was a good conference road win," said head coach Jeff Wyshner. "We came out really well in doubles, and also through the first set of singles. Syracuse really dug in and challenged us in second sets, but we did a good job of responding. Now, it's time for us to quickly move on to Boston College."
