Last Time Out

No. 33 Georgia Tech 5, No. 21 Wake Forest 2

Playing out of state for the first time this month, Wake Forest made the trip to Georgia Tech last Friday (March 18), ultimately falling in a 5-2 decision.

The Demon Deacons' streak against nationally-ranked foes continued, as Georgia Tech was the sixth such opponent faced in a row.

Wake Forest's standout doubles pairing of No. 76 Samantha Martinelli/Casie Wooten picked up what was arguably their most impressive win of the spring thus far, defeating No. 13 Ava Hrastar/Kylie Bilchev. The feat was the duo's first over a top-15 doubles opponent. Additionally, Wooten was one of two Deacs to take home a singles victory.

The Yellow Jackets notched the doubles point before grabbing three solo wins to clinch the match.

Sophomore Brooke Killingsworth totaled her fifth straight singles win, seizing control during the latter part of a two-set performance.

No. 21 Wake Forest 5, No. 62 Clemson 2

The Demon Deacons bounced back exceptionally this past Sunday (March 20), taking down No. 62 Clemson on its home court, 5-2.

Sunday's contest was a seventh consecutive match against a nationally-ranked team for Wake Forest and the Demon Deacons' third such win this season.

The Deacs secured the first point, which Mia Ahmad and Carolyn Campana decided in third doubles. Within the next stretch, four solo wins were highlighted by Brooke Killingsworth's clinch in fifth singles.

Killingsworth and Anna Brylin upped their season doubles record to 7-3.

With the match playing out singles, Brylin chipped into the scoring with another singles victory – her tenth of the 2022 campaign.

Clemson tacked on additional points in first and sixth singles.

Revamped Rankings

Wednesday (March 23) saw the ITA weekly updated rankings released, with some Deacs making strides:

Singles:

No. 48 - Carolyn Campana

No. 92 - Casie Wooten

No. 115 - Brooke Killingsworth

Doubles:

No. 8 - Anna Brylin/Brooke Killingsworth

No. 37 - Samantha Martinelli/Casie Wooten

As a team, Wake Forest moved to No. 23, remaining one of six Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) schools in the ITA Top-25.

Stellar Sophomores

Casie Wooten has impressively elevated her game throughout her second year with the Black and Old Gold. In the Clemson showing this past weekend, she picked up her eleventh singles win of the spring, only letting up one game during the afternoon. Her individual victories and record (11-3) currently pace the Demon Deacons. Wooten has gone 3-2 against nationally-ranked opponents and has remained in the ITA singles rankings all season long. Additionally, she has combined with Samantha Martinelli to record three ranked wins in doubles, primarily playing out of the second spot.

Yesterday (March 23), fellow sophomore Brooke Killingsworth earned her first career national nod in the ITA singles rankings, sliding in at No. 115. The Rogers, Arkansas native is currently on a six-match winning streak in solo play, holding a 7-2 record. She has combined with senior Anna Brylin to hold a top-10 spot in ITA doubles all season long (currently ranked No. 8).

Scouting the Opposition

Entering Friday (March 25), Syracuse will be looking to protect its home court after losing five of its last six matches. No. 58 Shiori Ito/Sofia Treshcheva (5-2) and Ines Fonte/Viktoriya Kanapatskaya (7-3) have impressed in doubles. Polina Kozyreva leads the Orange in singles wins (9-2), while Kanapatskaya has added eight of her own. The match will be the 13th all-time meeting between Wake Forest and Syracuse.

Boston College landed a spot in the ITA national team rankings on Wednesday (March 23) – coming in at No. 69 after not being ranked. In doubles, the team is paced by No. 63 Maria Aguiar/Laura Lopez, holding a 13-6 record. The Eagles have dropped three straight matches, including losses to No. 1 North Carolina and No. 10 Duke.
