
Wake Forest Finishes Weekend Sweep with Win Over Eagles

Women’s tennis displayed another stellar performance at Boston College.
CHESTNUT HILL, MA – Sunday morning (March 27) saw No. 23 Wake Forest women's tennis complete its weekend trip in style, defeating No. 69 Boston College (5-8, 2-6) on the road, 6-1.
The Demon Deacons (12-6, 4-3) won their fourth nationally-ranked match of the 2022 campaign during the feat.
For the second time in as many matches, Wake Forest clinched a match victory with a 4-0 start. Additionally, No. 115 Brooke Killingsworth extended her streak of singles wins to eight matches.
During doubles play, Killingsworth and Anna Brylin finished victorious in a ranked matchup for the third time this season.
Wake Forest now holds a 14-6 lead over Boston College in the all-time series record.
How it Happened

Continuing their momentum from Friday evening, Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth surged ahead 4-1 in first doubles.

Peyton Pesavento and Mia Ahmad were equally impressive on court three, winning the first two games before piling a 4-1 lead of their own.

Meanwhile, Samantha Martinelli and Casie Wooten bounced back to even the margin at 3-3 in second doubles.

Brylin and Killingsworth split in its next four games, taking a 6-3 win in their third consecutive doubles victory.

Moments later, Pesavento and Ahmad clinched the first point for Wake Forest, cruising to a 6-1 decision.

Martinelli and Wooten's match was left unfinished, as the duo led 4-3 at the time.

Only letting up one game to open singles, Wooten was the first Wake Forest individual to win a set (6-1).

Her doubles partner, Martinelli, finished her first set minutes later, taking a 6-4 edge.

Killingsworth was the third Deac to attain a first-set victory within a five-minute span.

In all, five of Wake Forest's solo participants grabbed wins in their respective opening periods.

Killingsworth and Martinelli each jumped ahead in their second sets, 4-1 and 4-2.

Martinelli upped the Deacon lead to 2-0 with a first solo win for the team.

Brylin followed with a singles victory on court three, and Killingsworth was right behind her senior to clinch the match, as Wake Forest went up 4-0.

Anna Campana began to heat up on court one, sweeping her second frame (6-0) after falling in the first set.

Next to Campana, on court two, Wooten fought through a three-set test that stayed close within the final period.

Saby Nihalani was the fourth Deac to capture a singles win, extending her squad's untouched advantage to 5-0.

Boston College placed a point by winning in first singles.

Wooten ended the afternoon in a three-set tiebreaker, securing her fourth straight solo victory.

"I was very pleased with the effort today," acknowledged head coach Jeff Wyshner. "To have a 10 a.m. start on a Sunday, we were nevertheless ready to go and looked good in doubles. I felt we played well in singles throughout, even though we had to sit Carolyn (Campana) out. It is now time to get home and prepare for the department's women in athletics 50th anniversary celebration next weekend with two big home matches."
