WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Facing a noteworthy test on its home court, Wake Forest women's tennis fought hard against No. 1 North Carolina (20-0, 9-0) throughout Friday evening (April 1) before suffering a 5-2 defeat.
Samantha Martinelli had a notable performance for the Black and Old Gold, capturing her first ranked solo win over a nationally-ranked opponent.
Saby Nihalani landed her second singles win in as many matches.
A total of six ranked International Tennis Association (ITA) players in singles competed in the match.
The Demon Deacons (12-7, 4-4) fell to a 16-45 record in the all-time series versus the Tar Heels.
How it Happened

Minutes into the match, doubles play started closely, as all three matchups split in the first two games.

Samantha Martinelli and Peyton Pesavento were the first Deacon duo to go in front, 3-1.
