WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – For the second time in program history, and first time since 1995, the Wake Forest women's golf program has won Atlantic Coast Conference Coach, Player and Freshman of the Year awards.
The Demon Deacons are one of just two ACC programs two outright sweep all of the top award multiple times in conference history.
Head coach Kim Lewellen has earned ACC Coach of the Year for the second time in four years. Junior Rachel Kuehn is the second Wake Forest women's golfer in the past four years to earn Player of the Year honors. Similarly, freshman Carolina Chacarra is the second Wake Forest player over the past five years to earn Freshman of the Year honors. Both players rank currently rank inside of the top 15 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings with Kuehn at No. 9 and Chacarra at No. 14.
Junior Lauren Walsh and sophomore Mimi Rhodes each earned All-ACC recognition along with Kuehn and Chacarra. This is the first time in program history that Wake Forest has had four players earn All-ACC recognition.
Since arriving in Winston-Salem, Coach Lewellen has been named ACC Coach of the Year twice, selected as the WGCA National Coach of the Year and was the head coach of the Arnold Palmer Cup Team USA. She has led the Demon Deacons to two ACC titles, an individual ACC title, and this year alone, earned four team wins and four individual wins.
Kuehn leads the team with 70.70 stroke average over 27 rounds and has earned ACC Women's Golfer of the Month awards twice this year. She won the individual title at the Tar Heel Invite in the fall, won the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in the spring, was selected to the ANNIKA Award Watch list and named to Team USA for both the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup and Curtis Cup.
During the 2021-22 season, Chacarra became the first Demon Deacon to win multiple individual titles in her freshman year since 1991-92, winning back-to-back titles to start the spring at the UCF Challenge and the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. She is second on the team with a 71.56 stroke average over 27 rounds and was also named to the ANNIKA Award Watch List and the International Team for the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup.
Walsh is coming off her highest finish of the season at ACC Championships, earning medalist honors coming in tied for third in the field of 64. She recorded seven top-25 finishes in eight outings and was selected to the 2022 Curtis Cup GB&I Team. Walsh also currently ranks inside of the top 30 in the WAGR.
This is the first conference honor for Rhodes since appearing in the lineup for almost every event since she stepped on campus in the fall of 2020. She has a 72.78 stroke average over 27 rounds and has recorded five top 25 finishes in nine events.
The Demon Deacons continue postseason play May 9-11 at the NCAA Regionals. Wake Forest was selected as the top seed at the Franklin, Tennessee regional site where the top four teams and top two individuals on non-advancing teams will earn a spot in Arizona to compete for the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk golf Club May 20-25.
