AUGUSTA, Ga. – Former Wake Forest men's golfers Webb Simpson and Will Zalatoris are near the top of the leaderboard after the first two rounds of play at The Masters in Augusta, Ga.
Both players will head to the weekend and currently sit inside of the top 25 after 36 holes of competition at Augusta National.
A season ago at the 2021 Masters, Zalatoris was one of the key storylines throughout the week, finishing as the runner-up to eventual champion, Hideki Matsuyama. He shot a 72-hole score of 279 (-9), finishing one stroke back of the champion.

The Plano, Texas native carded rounds of par or better in each round a year ago, the only player in the 2021 Masters field to do so.
He continued his impressive play at golf's most famed course this year, posting a first round 71 (-1) and a second round 72 (E), helping put himself in contention for a green jacket headed into the weekend. Zalatoris currently sits tied for 10th and is just two strokes from second.
The 2018 First Team All-American is looking to continue his strong play in major competition as he has three top-10 finishes in his last five tournaments including the 2021 runner-up finish at The Masters.
Zalatoris is joined inside the top 25 by fellow Demon Deacon Webb Simpson. The pair were both tied for 10th after the opening round at 1-under-par.
Simpson, who has finished inside of the top 20 in each of his last four Masters appearances, looks to be on track to continue that streak in 2022. He heads into the weekend tied for 20st on the leaderboard at even par.
Over the last five tournaments, he has been one of the most consistent players in the field, holding the seventh-best score to par over that period of time.
