FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Wake Forest women's golf team clinched a spot in the NCAA Championships for the fourth-consecutive year.
The Demon Deacons led all teams in the field with 58 birdies over three rounds. They were second in scoring on par fives and third in scoring on par four holes. Rachel Kuehn and Carolina Chacarra paced the Deacs for the third-straight day. Kuehn was second in the field of 66 with 17 birdies and Chacarra was fifth with 14. They were also second and third, respectively, in scoring on par five holes.
Kuehn finished in a tie for second place, four strokes off the regional winner, with an eight under par score of 208. It is her third-lowest 54-hole score of the year and her second second-place finish. After making the turn with an impressive first-nine score of 32, Kuehn maintained her positioning and birdied the par-five 18th to finish the second nine even par and four under for the day.
Chacarra had arguably her best first nine holes of the year in the third round, firing off five birdies to make the turn at five under par and a 31 out. Six pars on her second nine maintained her position and she also birdied the par-five 18th with a chip-in from the left-side ruff of the green.
Mimi Rhodes had her best day of the week on the final day of play, with four birdies on her first nine to make the turn at three under par. Another birdie for the Deacs on 18 and Rhodes finished her day one under par and two-over for the week. Lauren Walsh also birdied 18 for her second consecutive, as she also birdied the par-four 17th.
Coach's Comments
"We are very proud of our team, and we are excited to head back to Grayhawk this year. We started off a bit rough but came together and did what we needed to do to advance. They saw some adversity on the course in the first round but continued to persevere and improve each day. This team prepares for these moments daily and as a coach it is rewarding to see their discipline pay off. Go Deacs!" – head coach Kim Lewellen
