SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Wake Forest women's golf team will begin championship play for the fourth consecutive season Friday at Grayhawk Golf Club. The full championship will be played Friday, May 20-Wednesday, May 25.
The Demon Deacons are coming off a third-place finish at the Franklin Regional last week to advance to the NCAA Championship for the 28th time in program history. Junior Rachel Kuehn led the Deacs with a 208 (-4) to finish tied for second. Freshman Carolina Chacarra was right behind her with a 212 (-4) and a seventh-place finish.
The Deacs led all teams in the field with 58 birdies over three rounds. They were second in scoring on par fives and third in scoring on par four holes. Kuehn and Chacarra paced the Deacs all three days. Kuehn was second in the field of 66 with 17 birdies and Chacarra was fifth with 14. They were also second and third, respectively, in scoring on par five holes.
The 2021-22 season has been a successful one for Wake Forest, as they won their seventh ACC title en route to sweeping the ACC awards for Coach of the Year (Kim Lewellen), Player of the Year (Rachel Kuehn) and Freshman of the Year (Carolina Chacarra). They also landed a program-record four players on the All-ACC Team in Kuehn, Chacarra, Lauren Walsh and Mimi Rhodes.
The Deacs won four team titles and four individual titles in the regular season, along with Kuehn and Chacarra each being named to the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup Teams and the final ANNIKA Award Watch List. Kuehn and Walsh, along with former teammate Emilia Migliaccio, were also selected for the 2022 Curtis Cup this summer. Head Coach Kim Lewellen was named to the WGCA National Coach of the Year Watch List and Associate Head Coach Ryan Potter was named the assistant coach for Team USA at the Arnold Palmer Cup.
Coach's Comments
"The course is in great shape; the rough is thick so driving will be at a premium this week. As long as we stay in the fairway, we'll have lots of birdie chances, but par is still a good score on this course. We had a good practice yesterday and solid practice round today, so if we play the right way, we will have a great week.
We had a lot of traveling and exams before Regionals so our main emphasis leading up to Championships was rest. Everyone got in some practice last week and worked on some technical parts of their games, but we really stressed rest and recovery. Everyone's games look good, but it's a long week, so we're going to take it one round at a time." – associate head coach Ryan Potter

Course Information
Most of Raptor's fairways are generous, and the greens are large with sweeping undulations. Misses tend to find deep greenside bunkers and grass collection areas, making the scramble to get up and down a true test of the short game.
Raptor is considered to be one of the finest courses in Scottsdale and is listed among the best public golf courses in Arizona by Golfweek and Golf Magazine. Raptor is one of only two Scottsdale golf courses to host a PGA TOUR event – the Frys.com Open 2007-2009. Other tour-sanctioned tournaments include the inaugural Williams World Challenge, Andersen Consulting World Championship of Golf and Waste Management Phoenix Open Pro Ams.
Format
Finals play for the championship consists of three days of stroke play on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (54 holes), after which the top 15 teams and nine individuals on non-advancing teams will be determined. That is followed by a final day of 18 holes of stroke play on Monday to determine the top eight teams that will advance to match play as well as the 72-hole individual champion. The team national champion will be determined by a match-play format that will consist of quarterfinals and semifinals conducted on Tuesday, followed by the finals on Wednesday. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat and a full recap with results following each day's play will be posted on GoDeacs.com.
