More on Wake Forest and the NCAA Tournament
Standing at No. 24 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team standings, Wake Forest has compiled a 16-10 overall record this spring. Six of those victories have taken place over ranked opponents.
The Demon Deacons most recently competed in the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Tournament, held in Rome, Georgia (April 21-24). After defeating Syracuse in its first matchup, the team fell in the quarterfinals to Duke, 4-2.
A group of four has led Wake Forest in solo play throughout the season, each collecting 13 or more wins in singles:
-
Casie Wooten (16-4)
-
Samantha Martinelli (15-7)
-
Anna Brylin (15-8)
-
Brooke Killingsworth (13-6)
Brylin and Killingsworth have paired up to act as one of the most lethal duos in the country, ranking No. 6 in ITA doubles. Martinelli and Wooten recently climbed up the list to slide in at No. 29.
In the last three NCAA Tournament appearances, the Deacs have advanced to the Round of 32, falling each time to the Georgia Bulldogs.
