Four Deacs Set for NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – After the team reached the Round of 16 for the sixth time in the past seven seasons, four Deacs are back in action this week at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. The 64-man singles tournament (PDF) is slated to begin Monday morning, while the 32-pair doubles competition (PDF) will commence Tuesday at the at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Center in Champaign, Illinois.
 
Senior Eduardo Nava and sophomore Filippo Moroni will represent the Demon Deacons in singles competition, while Siddhant Banthia and Jakob Schnaitter will compete in the doubles draw.

Live stats for singles and doubles will be provided by Illinois and can be found here. There are also still a number of tickets available for the duration of the men's and women's singles and doubles championships which can be purchased here

PREVIEWING SINGLES
Moroni holds a 11-3 overall singles record this year. He is matched up with Ole Miss' Nikola Slavic in round one. That match will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET on Monday.
 
Nava is 19-10 in singles this season and opens against the No. 4 seed. He will face Liam Draxl of Kentucky in the first round Monday at 7 p.m. ET.
 
PREVIEWING DOUBLES
In the doubles bracket, the Deacs have Banthia and Schnaitter competing with a 13-5 record this season. They will battle No. 5-8 Bradley Frye and Stefan Dostanic of USC in Tuesday's opening round of doubles.

MATCH FORMAT
All singles and doubles matches will be best two-out-of-three sets. In doubles play, a 10-point super tiebreak will be used in lieu of a third set.
 
WAKE FOREST AT THE INDIVIDUAL SINGLES AND DOUBLES TOURNAMENTS
Petros Chrysochos stands as the lone Demon Deacon to capture the individual singles crown (2018), while a trio of doubles teams have reached the semifinals. Christian Dallwitz and Mark Greenan in 1998, Mariusz Adamski and Todd Paul in 2007 and most recently Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim in 2016. 
 
Overall, the Deacs have accrued one individual champion, a 36-23 record in singles and 17-10 in doubles. 
 
UP NEXT
The conclusion of the 2022 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will wrap up the Deacs' 2021-22 campaign.
