GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three Wake Forest men's golfers in graduate student Parker Gillam, junior Mark Power and sophomore Michael Brennan were selected to the Academic All-ACC Team, as announced by the league office on Monday.
The three selections tied the most by any school in the conference and marks the second consecutive year that the Demon Deacons have had three players named to the team. Additionally, this marks the second honors for both Gillam and Brennan, who were each selected to the 2021 Academic All-ACC Team.
All three players proved vital in the Deacs 2022 ACC Championship run at Shark's Tooth Golf Club in April as well as the New Haven NCAA Regional where Wake Forest won, setting program records for regional play.
The Demon Deacons captured an ACC-best 18th conference title this season and advanced to an ACC-best 47th NCAA Championship in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Gillam ranked eighth in program history with a career 72.21 stroke average. He claimed a point for the team in the ACC Championship Final. Gillam notched his first top-10 finish of the season at the Calusa Cup in April and improved his individual finish over the final six events of the regular season including talling top-20 finishes in each of the last three tournaments of the regular season.
Power notched three top-25 finishes, all coming in the final three events of the regular season. He played his best tournament of the season at NCAA Regionals, tying for ninth along at 4-under-par including a round of 67 (-3). Power provided a point in the ACC Championship Semifinal match.
His highest finish of the regular season came at the Wake Forest Invitational at Pinehurst No. 2 where he tied for 20th.
Brennan, who became the 100th All-America honoree in program history last week, was named to the Arnold Palmer Cup Team in April as he is set to represent Team USA this summer. Additionally, he was placed on both the Fred Haskins Award and Ben Hogan Award Watch Lists, given to the best player in collegiate golf.
In February, Brennan made his PGA Tour debut at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club after winning the Genesis Collegiate Showcase earlier in the week.
In the fall, he captured individual victories in back-to-back events at the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational and the Colonial Collegiate, the second time in his career he had back-to-back tournament wins. His round of 62 (-8) in the opening round of the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational is the second-lowest score in program history and tied the sixth lowest score relative to par in program history.
Brennan is one of just 12 Demon Deacons to have four or more tournament wins in his career.
He had a team-best 70.30 stroke average in 2021-22, which ranks fifth in program history.
