No. 14 Wake Forest Set to Host Double-Header Against Tennessee Tech and Elon

Returning nine Demon Deacons from a season ago, the Deacs will begin their quest for a 10th-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The 14th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team will officially open the 2023 season Monday, January 16 when the Demon Deacons host Tennessee Tech followed by Elon inside the Indoor Tennis Center at Wake Forest.
First serve against Tennessee Tech will take place at 11 a.m., while the match against Elon is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
Wake Forest boasts a 105-4 record at home since the start of the 2016-17 season. Additionally, the Demon Deacons accumulated a 26-0 mark at home a year ago, which included victories over both Tennessee Tech and Elon.
Of note, a pair of wins on Monday would mark the 20th time since 2000 that Wake Forest has begun the regular season 2-0.

The Matchup - Tennessee Tech
Tennessee Tech opened up its season with a pair of losses to No. 6 Tennessee Saturday as the Golden Eagles were downed 7-0 and 4-0, respectively.
Last season, Tennessee Tech won the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in program history. This season, in its first year competing in the new-look Horizon League, Tennessee Tech was predicted to finish in second place in the South Division as part of the 2023 Preseason Poll.
All-time, Wake Forest owns a 6-1 record against the Golden Eagles including six-consecutive wins. Of note, Tennessee Tech's lone victory came in 1971. Additionally, last season, the Demon Deacons swept the Golden Eagles in consecutive matches in the season-opener.
Previously, on Jan. 18, 2020, Wake Forest swept Tennessee Tech 7-0 marking the 200th-career win for head coach Tony Bresky.
The Matchup - Elon
Monday's match will mark the 2023 season-opener for the Phoenix.
A season ago, Elon went 15-9 and fell in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship match. The Phoenix return six from last season's squad, including All-CAA second team selection Nicholas Campbell.
Wake Forest has never lost to Elon as the Deacs own a 8-0 record against the Phoenix. Last season, the Demon Deacons swept Elon, 7-0.
2023 Season Outlook
Wake Forest returns nine Demon Deacons from a season ago, including 2022 All-ACC second team honoree Melios Efstathiou and 2022 All-ACC third team selections Jurabek Karimov and Filippo Moroni.
Efstathiou, a product of Limassol, Cyprus, logged a 16-7 dual singles record last spring. He has collected a total of 76-career singles wins. Efstathiou posted a stellar 13-5 (5-1 ACC) record at No. 2 and 3 singles last season, including a 3-2 record at the No. 1 position. Overall, Efstathiou is 76-31 in singles action since arriving at Wake Forest.
In his first season in Winston-Salem, Karimov's road to third-team All-ACC a season ago included a 6-12 (2-3 ACC) dual singles record. The Tashkent, Uzbekistan logged three ranked wins. In doubles competition, Karimov has posted a 6-2 (4-1 ACC) mark in dual matches.
Moroni posted an 11-3 mark in dual matches and reached the NCAA Singles Championships Round of 32 during the 2022 campaign. Of note, Moroni earned two ranked wins and clinched four matches with the Demon Deacons last season.
Sustained Success
Wake Forest has made the NCAA Tournament in each of the past nine seasons, including the 2018 season in which the Demon Deacons won the program's first ever NCAA Championship.
Since head coach Tony Bresky took over the program in 2012, the Deacs have accumulated 31 All-ACC honors. Of note, five Demon Deacons earned All-ACC honors last season, marking the most in a single season in program history.
