Demon Deacons Set to Face Louisville Cardinals in Road Tilt

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team will have its second of back-to-back road games this weekend, visiting Louisville on Saturday (Jan. 7). Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. ET and the game will air live on ACC Network.
The Demon Deacons (10-5, 2-2) are coming off an 88-79 loss at North Carolina Wednesday night. Wake Forest's 79 points were the second-most the Tar Heels have allowed in the Dean Dome so far this season. With 33 rebounds to the Tar Heels' 28, Wake Forest is just the third team this season to out-rebound North Carolina.
North Carolina came into the game holding its opponents to 43 percent from the field. Wake Forest finished 49.1 percent from the field on 28-of-57 shooting. North Carolina entered Wednesday allowing its opponents to shoot 15 free throws per game. The Deacs got to the charity stripe 20 times and hit 65 percent of those attempts. Prior to Wednesday, opponents were shooting under 34 (.338) percent from downtown against the Tar Heels. Wake Forest shot 47.6 percent (10-of-21) from three-point range on Wednesday. Additionally, opponents were averaging 13 assists per game against the Tar Heels. The Demon Deacons had 16 assists on 28 made baskets Wednesday night.
Damari Monsanto had a team-high 17 points (6-of-11) while snagging seven rebounds and scooping three steals. Tyree Appleby came close to a double-double, plugging in 16 points and dishing out nine assists. The graduate guard additionally went 3-of-5 from three-point territory and grabbed four rebounds. Andrew Carr had one of his most versatile performances of the year, posting 16 points (7-of-11), nine rebounds, and five assists. After scoring 12 points on Wednesday, Daivien Williamson is just 34 points away from reaching 1,500 career points.
The Cardinals, led by first-year head coach and former Cardinal standout Kenny Payne, are 2-13 overall this season and have started league play 0-4, facing Syracuse, NC State, Florida State and Miami so far this season. Louisville is anchored by senior guard El Ellis and his team-high 17.7 points in 35.3 minutes per game. Sophomore Brandon Huntley-Hatfield leads the Cardinals on the glass with 6.3 rebounds per game.
