Wake Forest is seeking its first win over the Tar Heels since 2012.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Jockeying for position in a tightly-contested ACC race down the stretch, the Wake Forest women's soccer team will play host to No. 3 North Carolina Friday evening at Spry Stadium.
 
Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET, and the match can be streamed on ACC Network Extra.

Season tickets start as low as $55 for general admission and $40 for youth, while reserved chair backs are $90 for fans and $73 for Wake Forest University faculty and staff.

Deacs vs. Tar Heels
  • Wake Forest returns home after three-consecutive games on the road. The Deacs picked up four points on the road trip with a 2-0 win over Virginia Tech, a 2-2 draw with Syracuse and a 4-1 loss to Pitt.
    • The team now sits in seventh place in the ACC with eight points, one point behind Virginia Tech for sixth.
      • Of note, the top-six teams in the league make the ACC Tournament
  • North Carolina enters the match unbeaten with nine wins and five draws, including a 4-0-2 record in conference play.
  • In addition to being ranked third in the coaches poll, the Tar Heels are second in the RPI rankings and are currently in third place in the ACC with 14 points.
 
ACC Tournament Outlook
Wake Forest is currently in seventh place in the ACC with four matches remaining. The Demon Deacons are just one point shy of tying Virginia Tech for the sixth spot in the league.
 
Familiar Faces
Junior forward Emily Murphy will be squaring off with her former team when the Demon Deacons and the Tar Heels square off Friday. Additionally, junior midfielder Abbie Colton will be facing her sister, North Carolina junior midfielder Emily Colton.
 
Dynamic Duo
Wake Forest has been led by sophomore forward Caiya Hanks, as she's tallied six goals this season – which ranks sixth in the ACC.
 
Junior midfielder Nikayla Small has also had an excellent 2023 campaign, as she is third in the ACC in assists with seven.
 
Stout Defense
Wake Forest currently ranks sixth in the ACC and 76th nationally with a .923 GAA through its first 13 matches. The Deacs have posted a shutout in .538 percent of their matches this season, which ranks third in the ACC and 33rd in the nation.
 
Shots on Target
The Demon Deacons have attempted 18.15 shots per game this season, which ranks fifth in the ACC and 15th nationally. Additionally, the Deacs rank fourth in the ACC in shots on goal per game with 7.85.
 
Last Time Out (Against Pitt)
Wake Forest dropped a 4-1 decision to Pitt Sunday at Ambrose Urbanic Field in Pittsburgh, Pa.
 
The loss marked only the second this season for the Demon Deacons and their second against Pitt all-time. Additionally. Pitt's four goals scored Sunday marked the most Wake Forest had allowed since the Deacs fell 4-1 at Georgia on April 3rd, 2021.
 
Pitt jumped out to a 1-0 lead behind a goal from Anna Bout in the 30th minute and took a one-goal advantage into halftime.
 
Junior forward Emily Murphy leveled the contest in the 58th minute as she found herself on the end of a ball from fellow junior Laurel Ansbrow, before she dropped a defender and fired it into the bottom-left corner. It marked the fifth goal of the season for Murphy and the 15th of her collegiate career.
 
Pitt took the lead for good in the 66th minute after a goal from Sarah Schupansky. The Panthers later secured the victory with goals in the 81st and 86th minutes, despite constant attacking pressure from Wake Forest.
 
Senior goalkeeper Maddy Howard set a new career-high with eight saves, doubling her previous best of four.
 
North Carolina Breakdown
  • North Carolina ranks second in the ACC and 29th nationally with just .643 goals allowed per-game.
    • Additionally, the Tar Heels have earned a clean sheet in half of their 14 matches this season, which ranks fourth in the conference and 46th in the nation.
  • Offensively, North Carolina has fired 18.5 shots per-game (fourth in the ACC) and 7.07 shots-on-goal per-game (sixth in the ACC).
    • The team ranks fifth in the conference in total goals with 27.
  • Individually, the Tar Heels have four players with 10-or-more points so far  this season.
    • Ally Sentnor has a team-high six goals, three assists for 13 total points.
    • Evelyn Shores (four goals, three assists) is second with 11 points.
    • Tori Dellaperuta and Avery Patterson (four goals, two assists) have 10.
  • In goal, Emmie Allen has started 12 of North Carolina's 14 matches and has allowed just eight goals, while making 25 saves and earning six clean sheets.

  • Wake Forest trails the all-time series, 2-34-2, to North Carolina.
  • The Deacs have dropped nine-consecutive matches to the Tar Heels, with their last win coming in a 2-1 road victory in 2012.
