Deacs Earn 2-Seed for East Lake Cup Match Play

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Wake Forest women's golf team finished in second place in the opening 18 holes of stroke play at the East Lake Cup to earn the 2-seed for Tuesday's match play.
Senior Mimi Rhodes started the day for the Deacs with a birdie on her second hole and freshman Macy Pate was right behind with a birdie on her first hole. Graduate Rachel Kuehn also started hot with two birdies on her first four holes.
Pate continued her momentum with another birdie before the turn, along with junior Carolina Chacarra also notching one on her first nine. Kuehn tallied her third in seven holes to make the turn one under par. Pate started her second nine with a birdie on the par-four, 379-yard 10th hole. Kuehn and sophomore Anne-Sterre den Dunnen each birdied the par-three, 145-yard 15th hole.
Chacarra made birdie on the par-four 16th and Rhodes notched her second of the day on the par-three 17th. All five Deacs parred the par-five, 475-yard 18th for a second-place team finish.
Pate's T2 finish is the best of her freshman campaign, finishing one under par and two strokes off winner Sadie Englemann. Kuehn's T6 finish is the third top-11 finish of her final college season. Chacarra has now finished inside the top-15 in every event this fall season with her ninth-place finish Monday and Rhodes has finished inside the top-20 in every event of the fall with her T11 finish.
Match Play
Wake Forest will face USC in the semifinals of match play on Tuesday. The winner of the match will face the winner of the Stanford-Texas A&M match for the Championship on Wednesday. The two losing teams from Tuesday will play each other for third place on Wednesday.
