Demon Deacons Traveling to Charlotte for Royals XC Challenge

A total of 11 Deacs will compete Friday between the two programs.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Just three weeks out from postseason action, the Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Charlotte for the Royals XC Challenge, hosted by Queens Saturday at McAlpine Creek Park.
 
The women's gold 5k is slated to begin at 5:05 p.m., while the men's gold 8k will start at 5:45 p.m. Live results for both races can be found here.

National Recognition
In the latest USTFCCCA Coaches Poll, the Wake Forest men were ranked 18th nationally, while the women received votes for the first time this season.
 
Last Time Out (Women - Paul Short Run)
The Wake Forest women's cross country team placed second overall in the 49th annual Paul Short Run last Saturday at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pa.
 
With Saturday's result, the Demon Deacons have now recorded consecutive top-two finishes to open the 2023 season.
 
Freshman Brooke Wilson continued her stellar rookie campaign as she placed seventh overall, clocking 20:29.1 in her second collegiate race.
 
As a unit, the Deacs notched 129 points en route to Saturday's second-place finish. Individually, Wilson was joined by graduate students Caroline Garrett (20:38.9), Lydia van Dijk (20:51.2) and Madeline Rehm (21:11.3), along with junior Leigh Walters (21:18.9) in completing the Deacs' top-five.
 
Overall, Wake Forest was one of only two teams (No. 24 Utah Valley) to have their entire top-five spread place in the top-50 Saturday.
 
Up Next
Both squads will face their final regular season test next week as the women will travel to Charlottesville, Va., for the XC23 College & Open Pre-Nationals, while the men will head to Madison, Wisc., for the Nuttycombe Invitational.
