    • The Deacs hold a 2-1-2 record in ACC play.
      • Their eight points put them in seventh place in the conference with five games remaining.
  • Pitt sits in fourth place in the ACC with 10 points.
    • Sunday will be its fourth-consecutive home match as the Panthers are 2-0-1 during the current home stand with wins over No. 22 Duke and Boston College.
  • Sunday will be a clash between one of the most prolific attacks in the ACC against one of the strongest defenses, as Pitt posts the third-most goals per-game in the conference (2.69) and the Deacs have the third-best goals-against average (.667).

Defensive Player of the Week
After anchoring Wake Forest's back line to its seventh clean sheet of the season, junior defender Laurel Ansbrow was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week by the league office Tuesday.

With the nod, Ansbrow became the first Demon Deacon to be tabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week since Kaitlyn Parks garnered honors during the spring 2021 campaign.

In last Friday's shutout against Virginia Tech, Ansbrow and the Demon Deacons' back line held the Hokies to a season-low zero shots on goal. Additionally, the Deacs held Virginia Tech to only three total shot attempts – which marked the fewest the Hokies had attempted since Oct. 9, 2020 against Duke.

Dynamic Duo
Wake Forest has been led by sophomore forward Caiya Hanks, as she's tallied six goals this season – which ranks fourth in the ACC.

Junior midfielder Nikayla Small has also had an excellent 2023 campaign, as she leads the ACC in assists with seven.

Stout Defense
Wake Forest currently ranks third in the ACC and 33rd nationally with a .667 GAA through its first 12 matches.

National Recognition
Wake Forest came in at No. 17 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, marking the Demon Deacons' highest ranking since Oct. 19, 2017.

Shots on Target
The Demon Deacons have attempted 19.08 shots per game this season, which ranks third in the ACC and 11th nationally. Additionally, the Deacs rank third in the ACC in shots on goal per game with 8.33.

Last Time Out (Syracuse)
After trailing 2-0 at the halftime break, Wake Forest battled back to secure a 2-2 draw with Syracuse Thursday evening at SU Soccer Stadium in Syracuse N.Y.

With the tie, the Demon Deacons (8-1-3, 2-1-2 ACC) now have eight points with five league matches remaining.

Despite facing a 2-0 halftime deficit, the Deacs used a pair of second half goals from junior midfielder Anna Swanson and sophomore forward Hannah Johnson to notch the draw.

As a team, the Demon Deacons outshot the Orange by a clip of 29-3 with 14 of 29 attempts coming on goal. Of note, Wake Forest allowed zero Syracuse shot attempts in the second half defensively.

Individually, the Deacs were led in the shot column by juniors Emily Murphy and Nikayla Small as the duo combined for 11 total shots with five coming on goal.

  • Individually, the Panthers are led by junior forward Sarah Schupansky. The Pittsburgh-native leads the team in goals (8), assists (6) and points (22).
    • She also leads the ACC in goals and points and is tied for fifth in assists. Fifth-year student Amanda West and junior Samiah Phiri are tied for second on the team with six goals apiece.

  • The Deacs have won four-consecutive meetings with the Panthers, with the last, and only, loss coming in an overtime game in 2015.
