The team will now look ahead to the championship season beginning in January.
RALEIGH, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team completed its final event of the fall slate on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 5), picking up multiple wins at the NC State Duals in Raleigh, N.C. inside J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
Six schools competed in the event, with four of them (including Wake Forest) splitting into two teams. For the Demon Deacons, senior Mia Ahmad and freshman Sankavi Gownder made up one team, while sophomores Whitley Pate and Nevena Carton made up another.
On Friday, the doubles pairings of Ahmad/Gownder and Carton/Pate both picked up impressive victories over Kantor/Lancelot of South Carolina (6-2) and Old Dominion's Johnson/Viktorovich (6-3), respectively. In singles, Gownder defeated South Carolina's Olympe Lancelot (6-2, 6-2) and Pate took down Old Dominion's Alexandra Viktorovich (3-6, 6-1, 6-3).
Saturday saw both Carton and Pate pick up singles victories against Ole Miss's Andrea Nova (6-2, 7-6 [6]) and Kelsey Mize (6-1, 2-6, 7-5), respectively.
The third, and final, day of action once again had both Wake Forest doubles teams win. Carton/Pate took down Duke's Codd/Christensen (6-1) and Ahmad/Gownder defeated NC State's Coe/Bradfoot (6-2).

From the Head Honcho
"It was a really solid performance on the weekend. Going 9-9 against that level of competition is very respectable. I thought our group showed a lot of heart, winning second sets after losing the first, closing out matches in straight sets when we won the first and we continued to play very good doubles. It was a good way to end fall competition. Now, we work towards being ready for January!"
Next Up
The Demon Deacons will now prepare for spring competition, starting with the South Carolina Duals (Jan. 13-15) in Columbia, S.C.
