
Deacs Hit the Road to Play at James Madison

Wake Forest is looking to bounce back as they travel north to face James Madison Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. ET with the game also streaming on ESPN+.
HARRISONBURG, Va. – After two games at home, the Wake Forest women's basketball team is back on the road Sunday when the Demon Deacons travel north to face James Madison.
The Demon Deacons (2-5) have continued to do a good job of sharing the basketball this season and that continued Thursday night. Against Texas A&M in the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge, Wake Forest recorded 15 assists on 21 made baskets (71.4 percent). So far this season, the Deacs have assisted 90 of 155 made field goals (58.1 percent). Additionally, Wake Forest has now had a different leading scorer in every game this season. Thursday night was Alexandria Scruggs turn as she poured in 16 points including 11 in the first quarter, finishing the game one point shy of her career high.
The Dukes (5-3) are coming off a 14-point loss at Liberty on Friday afternoon and are set to face their second Power-5 opponent of the season after falling to Michigan State on Nov. 23 in Cancun, Mexico. James Madison is 3-1 at home this season with the lone loss coming in the MAC-SBC Challenge to perennial MAC power Toledo, 60-49. So far this season, the Dukes have been one of the best teams in the country at hitting the glass, ranking fourth nationally with 49.3 rebounds per game and owning a +15.0 rebounding margin against their opponents this season. They also own the 10th ranked Field Goal Percentage Defense in the country, holding opponents to just 32.4 pct. shooting this season.
Tipoff for Sunday is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (ET) at LJVM Coliseum.

Senior guard Alexandria Scruggs led the team with a season-high and game-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting (60 percent) in addition to a team-high five rebounds.
It was her first game with double-digit points this season and first time leading the team in scoring.
Additionally, she is the seventh different Demon Deacon to lead the team in the first seven games of the season.
She was one point away from her career of 17 points set during the 2020-21 season at North Carolina.
FROM THE LINE
Through seven games this season, the Demon Deacons have seen a massive uptick in shooting percentage, going from 66.0 percent (343-of-520) last season to 73.0 percent (81-of-111) this season.
Additionally, the Deacs are getting to the line more this season as they are attempting 15.9 free throws this season compared to 15.3 attempts a season ago.
Wake Forest is totaling 11.6 free throws made per game this year compared to last year's 10.1 free throws made per game.
NEARLY PERFECT AT THE STRIPE
Graduate guard Kaia Harrison goes into Thursday, shooting a stellar 24-of-28 from the free throw line. She ranks in the top 50 nationally in free throw percentage and fifth in the ACC.
FORCING TURNOVERS
With 12 forced turnovers against the Aggies, the Deacs have forced double-digit turnovers in every game this season and have turned over opponents 116 times in seven games. The average of 16.6 turnovers forced per game is an increase from last year's 14.4 turnovers forced per game.
Against Villanova, the Demon Deacons turned the Wildcats over a season-high 10 times in the game as Villanova came into the contest second in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio.
Prior to that, Wake Forest forced 19 Saint Louis turnovers, the second-most the Billikens had committed in a single game this season and it resulted in 20 points on the other end for the Demon Deacons.
In the Deacs' game against BYU, they forced 26 turnovers, marking the most since January 22, 2017 against Georgia Tech when the Demon Deacons also forced 26 turnovers in the game. Additionally, it was the first time since December 18 and 21, 2017 against Charlotte and College of Charleston that Wake Forest has produced 20 or more opponent turnovers in back-to-back games. It marked the first time since March 16, 2017 (Washington State) that a Power-5 team had forced BYU into 26 or more turnovers.
Owning the Arc
Wake Forest has tallied 47 threes (6.7 per game) through the first six games of the season including finishing the win over Saint Louis with 11 threes made. This was the third time this season Wake Forest has tallied eight or more threes in a single game.
Last season, the Deacs hit eight or more threes 13 different times. The Demon Deacons ended the season ranked third in the ACC with 6.7 threes made per game.
On the defensive side of the floor, Wake Forest limited opponents to just 28.5 percent shooting from behind the arc, ranking 56th in the country last season.
Overall as a team, this has been one of the best three-point shooting years in program history, knocking down a 223 threes which is second in program history

- With 0.9 seconds remaining in the game, senior Elisa Penna connected on a pair of free throws to push Wake Forest past James Madison, 50-49.
- Playing in front of 9,786 fans, the second-most in program history, the Demon Deacons (7-4) were trailing by one point with 6.1 seconds remaining. Penna, who struggled from the field Monday, missed on a pull-up jumper but was able to track down her own shot and draw the foul in the process. The senior calmly hit a pair from the charity stripe. The Deacs stole the inbounds pass, sealing the victory and sending the packed LJVM Coliseum into a frenzy.
- The Deacs had a pair of players record double-doubles, as Ona Udoh (12 pts, 14 reb) and Alex Sharp (12 pts, 11reb) led the way. For Udoh, it is the third of her career, with all three coming this season, while Sharp tallied her second double-double of the season (10th of her career). Ivana Raca added a team-high 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
