Garrison Tubbs Named 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist

Tubbs is one of 15 semifinalists for the award given annually to the top soccer player in the country.
KANSAS CITY, MO. -- Wake Forest men's soccer's Garrison Tubbs has been named a semifinalist for the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy, the United Soccer Coaches and Missouri Athletic Club announced on Wednesday.
The Hermann Trophy is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year. The Brunswick, Ga., native is one of 15 semifinalists for the coveted award and one of four from the ACC.
During his senior season, Tubbs was named the ACC's Defensive Player of the Year, the lone defender on the All-ACC First-Team and earned a second consecutive United Soccer Coaches All-South Region First-Team selection.
Named to the Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List prior to the start of the 2023 campaign, Tubbs started all 18 of his appearances to captain a Demon Deacon backline that recorded seven clean sheets en route to the program's fifth ACC Atlantic Division title in nine seasons. He also recorded the game-winning goal in a 3-1 victory at Campbell.
Three men's finalists will be named for the award on Wednesday, Dec. 13 after voting by NCAA Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches. The 2023 MAC
Hermann Trophy winner will then be announced at a press conference at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 5, 2024, followed by a dinner to celebrate all of
the 2023 finalists.
Wake Forest has had three MAC Hermann Trophy winners in program history: Marcus Tracy (2008), Ian Harkes (2016) and Jon Bakero (2017). The Demon Deacons are one of nine programs to have three or more players selected for the prestigious award and is the most recent school to have back-to-back winners in Harkes and Bakero.
