
No. 9 Wake Forest to Host No. 8 South Carolina and Queens Sunday

The Demon Deacons are seeking their third top-25 win of the 2023 campaign.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Following a narrow defeat to top-ranked Ohio State, the Wake Forest men's tennis team will return to action Sunday when the Demon Deacons host No. 8 South Carolina and in-state opponent Queens for a double-header inside the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
The Deacs' matches against eighth-ranked South Carolina and Queens are slated to begin at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
Wake Forest is seeking its third top-25 win of the season when it takes on the Gamecocks Sunday. Of note, prior to Thursday's loss to Ohio State, the Demon Deacons were off to their best start since 2018.

Last Time Out
Despite a resilient effort, Wake Forest dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 1 Ohio State Thursday evening inside the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
The loss marked the Demon Deacons' first of the 2023 campaign and snapped the Deacs' 36-match home winning streak, which dated back to last season.
After securing the doubles point behind wins in first and second doubles, Wake Forest jumped out to a 2-0 lead as graduate student Jurabek Karimov notched an impressive 6-1, 6-1 victory in third singles over No. 41 Alexander Bernard.
Ohio State then responded with four hard-fought victories in sixth, fourth, fifth and second singles to go up 4-2, securing the victory.
With the match already decided, the two sides chose to play out the remainder of the contest as first singles was left unpronounced. Senior Melios Efstathiou went on to earn a thrilling 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory over No. 9 JJ Tracy.

South Carolina enters Sunday's match with a perfect 7-0 ledger, including a 4-3 victory over Georgia Tech in its last match.
The Gamecocks booked their ticket to the ITA National Indoor Championships with consecutive sweeps over Penn and NC State earlier this season. Of note, South Carolina has allowed points in only two matches thus far.

The Matchup - Queens
In its first year as an NCAA Division I program, Queens owns an 0-6 mark, including losses to James Madison and Virginia Tech.
Last season, Queens posted a 15-5 record while facing a schedule mostly of NCAA Division II programs. Of note, the Royals claimed their fourth conference tournament title and made their sixth NCAA Tournament appearance a season ago.
Coming into the 2023 campaign, Queens was picked to finish seventh out of 12 teams in the 2023 ASUN Conference preseason poll. The Royals return 2022 SAC Player of the Year Edoardo Bottino after he posted a 12-5 dual record and 10-1 mark in league play last year.
Of note, the Demon Deacons defeated the Royals, 5-2, on Jan. 22.
Sustained Success
Wake Forest has made the NCAA Tournament in each of the past nine seasons, including the 2018 season, in which the Demon Deacons won the program's first ever NCAA Championship.
Since head coach Tony Bresky took over the program in 2012, the Deacs have accumulated 31 All-ACC honors. Of note, five Demon Deacons earned All-ACC honors last season, marking the most in a single season in program history.
