No. 16 Wake Forest Prepped for Two Big Four, Top-25 Matchups

The Demon Deacons will face road tests against No. 21 Duke and No. 13 North Carolina over the next three days.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Just one match out of first place in the ACC, the 16th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team will hit Tobacco Road for consecutive contests against Big Four opponents No. 21 Duke (Friday, March 31) and No. 13 North Carolina (Sunday, April 2) this weekend at the Ambler Tennis Stadium and the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
 
The Demon Deacons (21-6, 5-1 ACC) are currently on a six-match winning streak and are 3-0 against ranked foes over the past two weeks. Of note, over the past six contests, the Deacs have outscored their opponents 28-4 as no team has registered more than one point against Wake Forest since March 10.
 
Currently, the Demon Deacons own a 17-0 ledger against in-state opponents since the beginning of last season. Additionally, the Deacs own a 7-1 record against Big Four opponents over the past three years, with the lone loss coming in 2021 to North Carolina in the ACC Tournament.
 
Combined, Wake Forest is a stellar 17-2 against Duke and North Carolina since 2016.

Last Time Out
Combating early adverse weather conditions, Wake Forest earned consecutive 6-1 victories over No. 50 Notre Dame and in-state foe UNC Greensboro Sunday at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
 
Sunday's win against Notre Dame marked the Demon Deacons' 11th-consecutive victory over the Fighting Irish, dating back to the 2015 season. Additionally, the Deacs' win over the Fighting Irish marked their ninth win over a ranked opponent this season as Wake Forest owns a 9-6 ledger against ranked foes to start the 2023 campaign.
 
Against the Irish Sunday, Wake Forest jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point with wins in the first and second slots. The Demon Deacons then carried their momentum into singles play, notching victories on 5-of-6 courts en route to the 6-1 victory.
 
After registering its fifth-consecutive win in the contest against Notre Dame, Wake Forest turned around to face UNC Greensboro less than two hours later. The Demon Deacons dropped the doubles point, before sweeping the Spartans in singles action to secure a triumphant 6-1 victory.
 
Of note, sophomore Noah Hanh made his first-career appearance against UNC Greensboro as he teamed up with freshman Saud Alhogbani in doubles play.
 
The Matchup - No. 21 Duke
Duke enters Friday's contest with a 13-5 overall record, including a 6-1 mark in ACC play. The Blue Devils are 6-2 at home and have won seven matches against ranked foes this season. Additionally, Duke has won seven of its last eight matches overall, including two consecutive coming into Friday.

The Demon Deacons are currently on an eight-match winning streak against the Blue Devils, dating back to 2016. Friday will mark the 64th all-time meeting between the Demon Deacons and the Blue Devils as Wake Forest owns a 17-46 record against Duke.
 
The Matchup - No. 13 North Carolina
North Carolina (14-5, 6-1 ACC) enters the weekend on a three-match winning streak, out-scoring its opponents 15-4 during the three contests. Since the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in mid-February, the Tar Heels have gone 7-1 with their lone loss coming to Virginia.
