Albuquerque, N.M. — Following an impressive performance at the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 23-25), Thomas Vanoppen (mile) and Andrew White (weight throw) have qualified and will now compete at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. this weekend, March 10-11.
After running a 3:59.09 in his second-place finish at the ACC Championships two weeks ago, Vanoppen now owns three of the top four mile times in program history, with his school record (3:54.85) coming earlier this season at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational (Feb. 10-11).
White enters the weekend with the top three weight throws in program history after posting a 21.60m at the ACC Championships and just missing out on a podium finish. His personal and school-best throw of 22.06m came in Winston-Salem earlier this season at the JDL DMR Invitational.
The meet will be streamed via ESPN+ on both days with on-air coverage beginning Friday at 11:30 a.m. and Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Additionally, the NCAA Championships YouTube channel will have replays of the top races and events after the conclusion of the live broadcast.
Events are slated to begin at 12:20 p.m. Friday and 12:00 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $25-$35 on a per-day basis or $45-$55 for the whole weekend and are available here.

After securing his spot in the final of the men's mile less than 24 hours prior, Vanoppen ran a stellar 3:59.09 in the mile to place second, earning his second-consecutive All-ACC nod. Additionally, Paul Specht placed fifth in the event, garnering All-ACC honors in his freshman campaign.
Vanoppen was joined by junior Thomas Kitchell as the only Deacs to earn podium finishes as Kitchell tossed 18.63m, finishing second in the men's shot put. Of note, Kitchell also placed second in the shot put a season ago at the 2022 ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Berry's stellar pentathlon performance was highlighted by fourth-place finishes in the high jump and the shot put, respectively.
Senior Emma Soderstrom earned All-ACC honors for the second-consecutive season in the high jump as the Gothenburg, Sweden native jumped 1.74m to finish sixth.
