
No. 6 Seed Wake Forest Primed for ACC Championships, Set to Face 11th-Seeded Virginia Tech Thursday

The Demon Deacons are seeking their 10th-consecutive victory over the Hokies, dating back to 2015.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Following an impressive 2023 regular-season campaign, the 20th-ranked and six-seeded Wake Forest men's tennis team will officially begin its ACC Championship quest Thursday evening when it squares off with 11th-seeded Virginia Tech at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
Thursday's second-round bout between the Demon Deacons and the Hokies is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
Wake Forest enters Thursday's match with a 23-10 overall record, including a 7-5 mark in ACC play. Of note, over their last three matches of the regular season, the Demon Deacons out-scored their opponents 15-5.
This season, the Deacs are led by senior Melios Efstathiou as the Limassol, Cyprus native owns an 18-4 dual singles record and is currently ranked the fifth-best singles player nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

In its final regular-season match of the 2023 campaign, Wake Forest defeated ACC foe Boston College, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the Weymouth Club in Weymouth, Mass.
Sunday's victory improved the Demon Deacons to a perfect 17-0 all-time against Boston College.
Wake Forest clinched the doubles point Sunday behind wins in the first and second slots as Matthew Thomson/Filippo Moroni downed Mason Fung/Jake Vassel, 6-4, before No. 73 Jurabek Karimov/Luciano Tacchi stormed back to defeat Juan Jose Bianchi/Max Motlagh, 7-5.
The Demon Deacons' momentum from doubles play carried over into singles as the Deacs took the opening set on 5/6 courts. Wake Forest went on to accumulate a 5-1 mark in singles action to secure the 6-1 victory over the Eagles.
Of note, with a 6-2, 6-3 win in sixth singles, freshman Saud Alhogbani improved to a perfect 5-0 in dual singles action this season.

Virginia Tech earned the 11th-seed in this year's ACC Championships after accumulating a 9-15 record during the regular season, including a 3-9 mark in league play. The Hokies are coming off an impressive 4-1 victory over Clemson in the regular-season finale on Sunday.
